Fractional ablation method

The Lux2940 erbium laser, manufactured by Palomar Medical Technologies, performs skin resurfacing using a fractional ablation method. This method involves controlling ablation and coagulation separately. In the process of fractional laser exposure, areas of intact tissue remain in the skin, which subsequently becomes a source of cell regeneration. This method is an alternative to phenol skin peeling.

Indications for use

The fractional laser ablation method is used to remove:

  • deep static wrinkles,
  • skin neoplasms,
  • pronounced “crow’s feet” and “purse mouth”,
  • stretch marks, scars, scars.

The laser equipment has a non-fractional ablation mode, thanks to which the device can function like a classic ablative erbium laser with high power and a large depth of impact on the skin. Lux2940 provides fractional laser ablation site diameters of 50-150 microns with a depth of 0.1-1.0 mm. The coagulation zone during skin resurfacing may be absent or vary from 5 to 50 microns.

Short rehabilitation period

. Clinical studies confirm that after the laser resurfacing procedure, re-epithelialization of the ablation areas appears on the histological section after 6 hours. The source of the process is undamaged zones. The use of Lux2940 provides a quick rehabilitation period: 2-4 days instead of 2 weeks when using classic laser equipment for skin resurfacing. Regeneration times are at a tissue ablation depth of 250 microns - 2 days, 400 microns - 4 days, 1200 microns - 2 weeks. In non-fractional mode, the laser affects the skin to a depth of 25-50 microns.

Minimal risk of complications.

An early reepithelialization process minimizes the risk of complications such as infection, scarring, hyper- and hypopigmentation as a result of laser exposure during skin resurfacing. With a minimal coagulation zone around the ablation columns (its complete absence in short pulse mode), the fractional laser reduces tissue swelling and accelerates the regeneration process during laser resurfacing for plastic surgery.

Three modes of exposure.

The essence of the method

Laser light is applied to the surface of the skin not in a single front, as when using conventional lasers, but “pointwise”, in the form of a beam (fractions) of many microscopic rays. This guarantees high precision and penetration, and at the same time, complete safety of the procedure. As a result of exposure to a fractional laser, a large number of microscopic treatment zones are formed in the skin, in which new young tissue is rapidly formed. Cells located near the treatment zones are also involved in this process and are actively renewed. As a result, the skin is evened out, acquires a smooth and even appearance, and the newly formed collagen-elastin framework gives the skin density and elasticity, eliminates wrinkles, and outlines the correct oval of the face.

General absolute contraindications for laser rejuvenation are:

How to prepare for laser hair removal

  • At least 20 days before the start of a laser hair removal course, do not use electrolysis, tweezers or depilatory wax - it is not recommended to remove hair from the roots in the area of ​​future laser treatment. Having lost the root, the hair loses its pigment, is less susceptible to laser treatment, and the effectiveness of the procedure may noticeably decrease.
  • On the day of laser hair removal or the day before, shave the hair where the laser will be applied. Otherwise, the beam energy will be distributed along the entire length of the hair and only part of it will reach the follicle. The principle of fractional photothermolysis

In the process of treating problem areas with a directed laser beam, consisting of many individual microscopic beams, microthermal treatment zones (MTZs) are formed in the dermis in the form of a matrix mesh. They are small wounds with coagulated walls, the diameter of which is approximately 100 microns, and the depth is no more than 2 - 3 mm. Due to the formed hollow tubes, instantaneous contraction of the skin occurs. The columns are surrounded by absolutely healthy tissue. In response to damage, the body's immune system launches a restorative regeneration process, activating fibroblasts. These are the cells of the middle layer of the dermis, which play the main restorative role in any damage to the connective tissue. They help heal wounds through the intensive production of collagen and elastin proteins. Thus, restoration of the basal layer of the epidermis occurs in the shortest possible time.

The main application point for laser flow is the liquid medium. The upper epidermis, unlike the deep layers, contains a small amount of water.
