Recovery period
After plastic surgery of the arms and armpits, the rehabilitation period takes about 2-3 months.
During the first two weeks, there will be swelling, bruising, and tenderness in the surgical area.
To prevent complications, as well as a faster recovery, you must follow the surgeon’s recommendations.
- Daily dressings.
- Avoid water treatments until the stitches are completely healed.
- Avoid visiting baths, steam rooms and solariums for 4-7 weeks.
- Wear compression garments.
- Avoid physical activity.
Aftercare and recovery after brachioplasty
Your surgeon will tell you how long this period will last and when you can return to normal activities and work. After surgery, you and your caregiver will receive detailed instructions about post-operative care and assistance, including information about:
• Drains, if any have been installed • Symptoms you will experience • Any possible signs of complications
Immediately after an arm lift
You may wear compression garments or bandages immediately after surgery. Dress it exactly as directed. Only remove it as directed for cleaning cuts or showering. You must arrange for someone to come pick you up and stay with you for at least 24 hours after surgery. Although rare, emergencies do happen. You should have someone else help you with your bath in the first few days as you may feel dizzy or faint.
• Drink only liquids for the first few hours after surgery. Next, start your meal with small portions of light dishes. If you experience nausea and vomiting several times during the process, consult a doctor. Excessive vomiting and nausea can cause bruising under the skin.
• As soon as you are able and strong after surgery, carefully get out of bed. Before getting to your feet, sit for a while on the edge of the bed or chair. Start walking a little as soon as you feel strong enough, but don't overexert yourself. Avoid physical activity that involves moving your arms, raising your arms above your head, or lifting objects. A healthy balance of rest and physical activity will speed up recovery.
• You will experience some pain and discomfort. But they can be relieved by taking painkillers.
• 48 hours after surgery, all pain and discomfort will begin to subside. If you experience a significant increase in pain, call your plastic surgeon. Severe pain is very rare, but if you experience this problem, contact your doctor right away.
• Bruising and swelling may occur. These symptoms reach their peak during the first 36-48 hours after surgery, then gradually weaken over the next 10-14 days. To minimize swelling, place pillows under your arms while you sleep for the first two weeks.
Recovery period after an arm lift
It will take you several weeks to fully return to normal and recover from arm lift surgery. It will take at least 1-2 weeks before you can return to work and about 10 days before you can start driving.
• During the first week, avoid movements that may increase your blood pressure, as this may cause bleeding at the surgical site.
• Be very gentle and gentle with your scars throughout the recovery period.
• The safest exercise for you, especially during the first week, will be walking.
• Avoid exercises that directly affect the surgical site for four weeks.
• After a month, you can begin cardiovascular exercise, such as cycling or brisk walking.
• Avoid heavy lifting, contact sports and running for up to six weeks.
• Six weeks after your arm lift, you will be able to return to your normal lifestyle.
Follow your plastic surgeon's post-operative recommendations. These recovery instructions may include the following:
Walking:
Even though your arms will be sore for a few days, you should still be up and walking the day after surgery. These exercises are the best way to prevent blood clotting in the legs. For several days after surgery, you will need to resume some of the activities of your daily life.
Dream:
For the first two weeks after your arm lift, try sleeping with two or three pillows under your arms. This will ensure that excess fluid drains from the upper limbs and will reduce inflammation and pressure on the surgical incisions.
Taking a shower:
Your surgeon may remove dressings and bandages during your first postoperative visit, which should be within five days of surgery. After this you can take a shower. After showering, simply pat your scars dry with a towel and place compression garments on your arms.
Edema:
It may take three to five weeks for hand swelling to subside. Try to keep your arms slightly elevated as per your surgeon's instructions to shorten this time.
Driving:
If you are taking painkillers, it is not safe to drive for 24 hours after taking them, as your reaction time and attention may be impaired.
Light exercises:
Walking, stretching, and moving your arms and legs while sitting will reduce swelling and prevent clotting. If you feel pain or tension in the incision area, stop exercising.
Scars:
Everyone's body is different, and many factors affect the healing time of sutures. Your scars will remain hard and reddish for about six weeks. You must wait at least 12 months after your arm lift surgery for the redness to subside and for the stitches to smooth out and blend in with the rest of the skin.
Possible complications after an arm lift
Fortunately, serious complications following arm lift surgery are uncommon. This operation is the best option for hand rejuvenation and usually takes place without any negative consequences. Any surgical procedure poses some risk. Some of the possible complications after any surgery are:
• Adverse reaction to anesthesia • Hematoma or seroma (collection of blood or fluid under the skin that may later require removal) • Infection and bleeding • Changes in sensation • Scarring • Allergic reactions • Damage to underlying tissue • Unsatisfactory results that may require additional surgery.
You can help minimize certain risks by following your plastic surgeon's advice and instructions both before and after your arm lift surgery.

Operation technique
Brachioplasty is performed under general anesthesia and lasts from 1.5 to 2.5 hours. During surgery, the surgeon makes an incision in the skin tissue along the inside of the shoulder from the armpit to the elbow. Next, the surgeon removes excess fatty tissue, excises excess skin, tightens it and fixes it in a new position, applying cosmetic sutures.
The incision technique depends on the severity of the problem and the scope of the task: if there is significant laxity of the skin, a fishtail-shaped incision or a T-shaped incision can be made. In contrast, if the problem area is small and located closer to the armpit, a less invasive transaxillary method is used: excess fat is removed through an incision under the armpit, after which the skin is pulled up and sutured.
The aesthetic “costs” of classical brachioplasty include a visible postoperative suture running along the entire inside of the shoulder. In some cases, to make it minimally noticeable, the surgeon makes an S-shaped incision.
