Principle of operation
The principle of waxing is based on pulling out hairs from the roots using an adhesive mixture containing oils and resins. The latter components provide hair grip, and the former provide care and hydration. The product is applied to the skin, then a strip is applied and abruptly torn off from the area.
There are several types of these products on the market, but not all are suitable for home use. Some require a special heating device - a wax melter.
The choice of product depends on which area of the body will be treated . Use hot, warm and cold wax. The higher the temperature of the product, the less discomfort. This is due to the ability of heat to reduce pain.
The waxing kit includes the following items:
- Cartridges or jars with the product are used in different densities depending on the area being depilated.
- Wax melter - the device heats the required amount of product to a certain temperature.
- Spatula - will be needed when working with a product that is sold in cans.
- Strips - Fabric and paper strips are intended for waxing. They are applied after applying the mixture according to hair growth and are torn off along with it. Strips up to 20 cm are suitable for the bikini area and legs.
- Cosmetic wipes - remove product residues and care for the skin, nourishing, moisturizing and relieving irritation. They contain various extracts, vitamins and essential oils.
Contraindications
Avoid waxing or consult your doctor first if you have:
- diabetes;
- low blood clotting;
- phlebeurysm;
- allergic reactions to the composition used;
- any skin damage on the legs, including scratches and pimples.
- warts and other skin growths.
During pregnancy, you need to be careful about waxing, as there is a high risk of unexpected reactions to the painful procedure.
During pregnancy, it is better not to perform waxing without consulting a specialist.
How does the procedure work?
The home hair removal technique is not a complicated one. The procedure for hair removal using wax takes place in several successive stages:
- Stage 1 – preparing the skin for hair removal. The treated area is degreased and disinfected using a pre-depilatory agent;
- Stage 2 – applying the mixture using a spatula in the direction of hair growth;
- Stage 3 – removal against hair growth;
- Stage 4 – removing residues using special oil;
- Stage 5 – restoration of the skin using emulsion or cream.
Note! After the depilation process itself, you can apply oil to slow down hair growth.
To carry out the sugar depilation procedure you will need
Sugar paste “Elena Maaya” Metal or wooden spatulas. Paper or fabric strips for bandage equipment for working with soft paste or for removing sticks. Chlorhexidine or lotion for treating the skin before and after hair removal. Cup with cold water. Clean towel. Talc. Napkins.
It should be remembered
Never apply hot paste to your skin!
Sugar depilation should be carried out in a dry and warm room, the optimal air temperature is 24-26°C. The optimal hair length in the hair removal area should be 4-5 mm. Choose the density of the paste based on your sugaring technique. Medium-hard paste and hard paste are intended for manual techniques, soft paste is used in bandage techniques.
Homemade wax recipe
How to make depilatory wax at home using improvised means:
Recipe No. 1 - complex
You will need two types of wax - carnauba (360 gr.) and beeswax (130 gr.), glycerin (7 ml.).
Preparation is carried out as follows:
- for more precise control of the process, the ingredients should be melted in a water bath until a homogeneous mass is formed;
- the resulting mixture is cooled slightly to 40 degrees and glycerin is added;
- To add a pleasant aroma, add essential oil (2-3 drops).
Recipe No. 2 – honey-lemon
The honey and lemon based recipe is quite effective and suitable for the bikini area. Required set of products for waxing: half a lemon, honey (300 g). Preparation occurs in the following sequence:
- squeeze lemon, mix with honey;
- add water (100 ml.) and mix thoroughly;
- put the mixture on fire, after a couple of minutes add water again (100 ml);
- cook until syrup thickens. Cool slightly and use as intended.
Recipe No. 3 - sugar
Necessary ingredients: sugar (500 grams), paraffin - 50 grams, lemon (2 pcs.), glycerin (1.5 tsp).
How to prepare depilatory wax at home:
- squeeze juice from lemons, add sugar and paraffin;
- put on fire and wait until sugar and paraffin are completely dissolved;
- add glycerin;

Recipe No. 4 - effective
Necessary products for preparing depilation wax at home: honey (100 g), paraffin (50 g), rosin (150-200 g).
Place all ingredients in a bowl and heat until melted. You can use a wax melter for preparation. Next, the mixture is removed from the heat and cooled to 40-45 degrees.
Suitable for rough areas of skin – legs and arms.
Homemade hair cream
Many women use depilatory cream to remove hair. You can also make this product yourself. Firstly, it will not contain the chemical ingredients of factory-made creams that have a detrimental effect on the skin. Secondly, this is again a cheap method. To prepare the product you will need the following ingredients: sugar, water, honey, half a lemon, cotton cloth, moisturizer and body scrub.
There are two simplest ways to prepare the mixture, the first:
- We boil water, pour three tablespoons of boiling water into a glass container, mix in it a tablespoon of honey and sugar. Squeeze the juice from the lemon into a homogeneous mass. After this, mix again, cover with the prepared cloth and let cool. While the cream arrives, take a shower and use a scrub to cleanse the skin. Apply the cooled mixture to the skin and wash off after twenty minutes. After the procedure, moisturize your hands with cream.
Second method:
- Mix four tablespoons of honey into half a glass of boiling water. Let the mixture cool while we take a shower with a scrub. Before applying the honey cream, squeeze the juice of half a lemon into it. Depilation of hands is carried out according to the above described scheme.
This technique is suitable for hair removal on the face, bikini area, and armpits. For tougher vegetation, lemon juice is replaced with citric acid.
special instructions
Where can I get wax? It is sold in solidified form (like soap) in cosmetic stores. It can be stored for a long time. If the prepared mixture is not completely consumed, then it is placed in the refrigerator until the next procedure. Before each depilation procedure in the future, it is better to warm it up in a water bath for about 10 minutes. A microwave oven is also suitable for these purposes, but it may heat the product unevenly.
Special instructions before depilation:
- Before applying a homemade product, you need to check its temperature;
- To make depilation of the bikini area less painful, it is recommended to use a hot mixture (45 degrees);
- You should depilate your legs with a warm mixture (38-40 degrees).
Skin care after waxing at home
After home hair removal, the skin requires special care. A woman needs to follow rules that will allow the epidermis to recover faster. These include the following:
- disinfect the skin with an antiseptic - Furacilin or Chlorhexedine;
- After a few minutes, massage the skin;
- to relieve irritation, you can cool the area with ice cubes from a herbal decoction;
- lubricate the treated area with a soothing cream - as a rule, irritation goes away the next day;
- do not wet the depilated area for 5 hours - this will avoid infection and irritation;
- Do not take a shower during the day, do not visit the solarium or sauna, and do not sunbathe in the sun;
- do not use products with fragrances and alcohols - this will get rid of ingrown hairs in the future;
- if irritation occurs, you need to use salicylic acid or Lokoid gel, panthenol-based cream;
- tea tree oil, as well as aloe juice, remove inflammation well - soak a cotton pad in the product and wipe the irritated area;
- do not wear tight trousers and jeans in the first few days;
- use peeling 2 times a week to prevent ingrown hairs - the procedure is carried out only on the 4th day after waxing.
Home methods of depilation on hands
To combat hair at home, wax, resin, sugar, and various infusions are suitable. All this gives a short-term effect and requires regular repetition of the procedure. Faster results can be achieved by using an epilator and special creams. Whatever method is chosen, the length of the hair must be at least 4-5 mm, otherwise it may grow into the skin. To avoid pain, it can be treated with an anesthetic gel.
How to wax your arms
This option involves using warm or hot wax.
Alternatively, you can use ready-made strips. If handled carelessly, they can cause burns. You should not resort to them in case of varicose veins, thrombophlebitis, hypertension, heart pathologies and violation of the integrity of the skin at the site of action of the drug. The disadvantage of this method is the high pain level. Depilation schemes:
- Warm wax
. It must be heated to a temperature of 30-40 degrees. After this, the composition is applied in a thin layer to the hands using a cassette applicator. A special tape is glued over the product, one end of which remains free. This is where the strip is removed after 1-2 minutes with gentle, not sudden movements, in the direction of hair growth. - Hot wax
. The difference between this method and the previous one is that in this case the wax should be even warmer (heats up to 70 degrees). After applying it to the skin, it cools quickly and is removed with a cotton swab or a piece of gauze soaked in any essential oil. This method eliminates skin trauma and is less painful.
Regardless of the type of wax, it is always applied in the direction of hair growth and removed against it. Repeat the procedure every 20-30 days.
Features of hand depilation with sugar
The procedure is generally similar to that carried out in beauty salons.
To do this, you can use both ready-made paste and homemade paste. The recipe for its preparation is very simple: combine 4 tbsp in an enamel pan. l. lemon juice and water with 250 g of sugar, put the mixture on low heat and cook until it thickens and turns brown. Do not forget to stir it during this time so that it does not burn. This usually takes about 10 minutes. The composition is completely hypoallergenic.
The procedure flow is as follows:
- Wash your hands with soap.
- Treat the surface with a cotton swab dipped in an antiseptic solution.
- Wipe the skin with a dry cloth and sprinkle with talcum powder, this will improve the “adhesion” of the paste to the hairs.
- Using a cosmetic brush, carefully apply a thin layer of the composition to your hands, working from top to bottom.
- Leave the product for 1-2 minutes, during which time it should harden a little.
- Remove the resulting film with one sharp movement; as a result, fallen hairs should remain on it.
- Wash your skin and wipe it first with an antiseptic, and then with a moisturizer.
This method is not suitable for patients with diabetes of any type and with increased sensitivity to sweets. You should not prepare too large a volume of product: after standing for more than a day, it will “grab” the hair worse.
Hair depilation with resin
This technique is absolutely harmless to health and is suitable for every person.
To carry out the procedure, you can use both cedar tree resin and phytocompositions, which usually also include honey. They are sold in cans and roller cassettes. The former do not need to be heated, but for the latter this is very important. It is important to use them only if the hair length is at least 4-5 mm. Procedure to complete:
- Take a shower, dry off and scrub your skin.
- If you use a product from cans, then preheat it to 30-40 degrees.
- Carefully, using a brush, apply the mixture in a thin layer, spreading evenly over the surface.
- Leave the product on for 40 seconds.
- Use your fingernail to pick up the edge of the resulting film and slowly pull it towards you, against the direction of hair growth.
- If you choose hot phytoresin, then you need to remove the composition with fabric strips. They are pressed tightly against the skin and then abruptly torn off.
- At the end, you need to wipe your hands with wet wipes and lubricate them first with an antiseptic solution and then with a moisturizer.
The resin will allow you to get rid of hair in 1-2 times. The procedure is recommended to be carried out at least 3-5 days apart - the skin should be allowed to recover from stress. At first, slight redness and itching may bother you, which can be eliminated without any problems with soothing creams.
Depilation of hands with cream
The frequency of use of this product should be 1-2 times a week.
Using it too often leads to hair coarsening, making it coarser and darker. It is also very important that this method does not allow you to remove them along with the bulbs, so the effect is short-term. This method is considered atraumatic and does not cause pain. This procedure takes about 20 minutes and almost always solves the problem in one go. To prevent hand depilation at home from spoiling your health, the depilatory cream should be chosen with a natural composition - oils, decoctions and infusions of herbs, and clean water. It is not allowed to contain parabens, dyes and various aromatic additives. Before covering all your hands with the product, it is recommended to conduct a test - lubricate the bend of your elbow with it. If no allergic reaction occurs, then the procedure can begin.
You need to use the cream according to the following instructions:
- Wash and dry your hands, or dry them with a towel.
- Squeeze a little onto your palms.
- Distribute the composition over the surface to be depilated.
- Leave the mixture for 5-10 minutes.
- Using a special spatula, starting from the top, remove loose hair from the skin. In this case, you should press on it at a slight angle, pointing downwards.
- Wipe the treated areas with a damp cloth.
- Take a shower and lubricate your hands with moisturizer.
Do not touch your face, much less your eyes, until the composition is completely removed from the surface.
If the product does get on the mucous membrane, rinse it with water. This method should be treated with caution if the skin of the hands is damaged, venous insufficiency, hormonal imbalance, pregnancy, allergic reactions and diabetes mellitus. Before using the cream, it is best to consult a cosmetologist. Note! Among all the products, the most effective products are “Red Line”, “Sally Hansen” and “Byly”.
Depilation of hands with an epilator
This method is best left as a last resort, since the skin of the hands is very sensitive.
Using an epilator is quite painful and causes a lot of discomfort. The longer you depilate with it, the lower the pain threshold becomes. For this procedure, the hair must be at least 3 mm long, otherwise there is a risk of incomplete removal or even ingrowth. The most effective devices are from Braun and Philips. It is desirable that they have at least 2 speeds. Here's how to depilate your hands with an epilator:
- Cleanse your hand skin of impurities using a scrub.
- Steam the surface well after taking a shower and let it dry.
- Raise your left arm toward the ceiling.
- Plug in the device and select the lowest speed.
- Place the epilator at your shoulder and slowly move it down, trying not to lift it from your hand.
- Repeat the same thing, only cover a different area, and so on until the very end.
- Now depilate your other arm, trying to hold the device at a slight angle away from you.
- Finally, to soothe the skin, treat it with antiseptic and anti-inflammatory compounds.
One hand depilation procedure takes approximately 30 minutes. It is recommended to repeat it 1-2 times a month, not more often. This is due to the fact that after it the hair becomes very stiff and begins to darken quickly.
Depilation of hands using folk remedies
This is the safest option; the only contraindication to its choice is individual intolerance to certain components of the product.
Castor oil, ammonia, nutshells, ash, dope or nettle can help you here. They need to be prepared no earlier than 2-3 hours before use, unless we are talking about alcohol tinctures. In this case, the composition is kept for at least a day. When choosing these methods of hand depilation at home, you should not count on quick results. Of all the recipes, the following are of greatest interest:
- With nettles
. It is necessary to prepare an oily liquid from this plant, for which you should mix its seeds (60 g) with sunflower oil, which will require no more than 120 ml. This composition should be poured into a jar, covered with a lid and kept in a warm place for 1-2 days. After this time, wipe your hands with it every day until the problem is resolved. - With castor oil and ammonia
. The first ingredient needs 5 g, and the second - 10 g. You will also need iodine (2 g). Combine all this and shake. Soak a cotton pad in the mixture and pass it over the skin of your hands 2 times a day. “Baldness” should occur approximately on the 3-5th day. - With nut shell
. You need to take about 150 g of it. This ingredient should be grated and pour boiling water (250 ml). Then the mixture must be filtered and the resulting liquid used to lubricate the skin 2-3 times a day. After this, you must wash yourself immediately, otherwise your hands may turn green. - With ash
. Burn the poppy seed and rub the resulting ash on the problem areas as many times as necessary for hair loss. After this you need to take a shower. - Datura
. You need the root of this plant, which must be grated. In total you should get no more than 6 tbsp. l. ingredient. Next, fill it with boiled water (1 liter) and leave for a day in a warm place. Use the finished infusion to wipe the skin.
How to remove the mixture after depilation
Even with the correct hair removal technique, wax particles may remain on the skin. The first thing to do is to remove it from the surface as quickly as possible. Inexperienced users try to remove it with water, making a mistake. When moisture gets in, the product shrinks and thickens, and removing it becomes problematic.
The most effective means for removing wax residues are: olive, sesame, flaxseed, regular vegetable oil or fatty cosmetic oils. Thick creams are also suitable. With its help, you can solve two problems - remove frozen particles and prevent irritation. The cream is applied in two layers and removed with a napkin.
Heat the oil to 40 degrees, moisten a cotton pad and wipe the area that was depilated. If a significant amount of sticky mixture remains on the skin, it is removed using a wash. To do this, vegetable oil is taken into a bottle with a spray bottle and sprayed onto the area. Next, remove the remains with a napkin.
Note! To avoid leaving sticky marks, the procedure is carried out in the bathroom.
Features of depilation
Like other cosmetic procedures, depilation has some features, and when performing it you need to know about some tricks and subtleties. If you have never done depilation procedures yourself, then before carrying out it you need to find out about possible side effects, the required hair length and the expected result.
Irritation after the procedure
Immediately after the event, redness will be noticeable on the skin, which is the result of mechanical impact on the skin. To avoid severe irritation, after the procedure it is recommended to apply a soothing cream or lotion with a cooling effect to the skin to eliminate redness. For 6 hours after depilation, you should not get your skin wet, and for 24 hours you should not take a hot bath or sunbathe. It is also not recommended to wear clothes that are too tight.
Effect duration
The result of the procedure can last from 2 to 4 weeks. The duration will depend on the characteristics of the hair: growth rate and hair thickness. Special gels and creams that slow down hair growth will help improve the results of depilation. With regular procedures, the vegetation becomes thinner and the hair becomes thinner, so each subsequent procedure will be faster and easier.
How to get rid of wax
To remove the remaining wax on the skin after depilation, you should not use any means with a strong mechanical effect; it is also undesirable to use hot water and a washcloth. In order not to injure the skin irritated after the procedure, the removal should be quite gentle; for this, any cosmetic oils or napkins soaked in them are used. If there are no such products, then you can use olive, flaxseed or sunflower oil.
