Acne

Causes of a rash on the back

The reasons for men and women are identical. These are divided into internal, associated with a malfunction of a certain organ or system, and external, caused, for example, by failure to maintain personal hygiene.

External sources also include:

  • use of low-quality cosmetics (bathing gel, body lotion, tonic, etc.);
  • failure to maintain personal hygiene, not taking a shower every day (normally, water procedures should be performed 2 times a day: after sleep in the morning and before going to bed after a hard day);
  • wearing clothes made of synthetic material, which prevents the passage of air to the skin, contributes to the creation of a “greenhouse effect”, and this is a direct path for the proliferation of pathogenic microorganisms;
  • wearing clothes that fit tightly to the body, which rub the skin;
  • long hair can irritate the skin and also become a source of spread of pathogens throughout the back and shoulders;
  • prolonged and systematic exposure to open sunlight, which increases the production of sebum;
  • frequent depilation, which thins the upper layer of the epidermis and causes inflammatory processes in the sebaceous glands;
  • living in conditions with high air humidity.

Other factors for rashes

Acne on the back and chest in women and men is a consequence of increased sweat production. Together with this liquid, the body loses toxic substances, salts, and other waste products of cells.

To prevent them from lingering on the skin and causing inflammation, it is recommended to take a shower after each sweating.

People who occupy a certain profession, for example, those associated with hazardous production, are also susceptible to rashes. Harmful evaporation, oil products and other chemical elements negatively affect the condition of the epidermis.

Internal reasons why acne on the back bothers a person include pathological conditions that develop in a specific organ or system:

  • disruption of the hormonal background, in the functioning of the thyroid gland (this cause is especially common for acne on the back of adolescents during puberty);
  • acne on the face and back of a girl occurs before menstruation, in women - during menopause;
  • pathologies in the gastrointestinal tract;
  • diseases of the spine;
  • diseases of organs such as liver, urinary tract;
  • weakened immune system, for example, due to acute respiratory viral infections or antibiotic therapy.

In such cases, it is recommended to direct the main efforts to eliminate the underlying disease. After the primary pathology is cured, acne on the back will also disappear.

Symptoms and diagnosis

Acne and rashes on the face most often appear in women and are difficult to cure. Acne on the back usually appears in men due to the active production of sebum due to excess testosterone and can be accompanied by complications. Also, mothers of young children sometimes confuse a rash on the back with acne in newborns. However, acne in infants appears only on the face and head; formations on the body indicate an allergy.

Acne is determined by the nature of the rash, which is divided into:

  • Open comedones, which look like blackheads, are formed as a result of blockage of the follicle with excess sebum;
  • Papules – the initial stage of purulent formation;
  • Large whiteheads are an accumulation of sebum under the skin that does not come to the surface;
  • Pustules and pimples are papules in which purulent contents have accumulated;
  • Inflamed cysts are a hardened mass of sebum that has begun to decompose and has closed a follicle or pore.

Before treating acne on the back, you need to visit a clinic, where a dermatologist, using differentiated diagnostics, will confirm acne. The next stage is to identify the cause of the disease. To do this you need:

  • Consult an endocrinologist, gastroenterologist, urologist or gynecologist;
  • Submit the contents of the rash for examination;
  • Take blood tests: biochemical, hormone, clinical;
  • Undergo an ultrasound examination of the adrenal glands, as well as for women - the pelvis and for men - the prostate gland and testicles.

You can see a photo of acne on the back below; the example presented contains all kinds of forms of acne in a man before treatment:

Classification

Acne on the back in a child or an adult can have an inflammatory or non-inflammatory etiology:

  • in the first case, you can notice redness on the skin, its thinning, the appearance of purulent exudate in the inflammatory elements, pain on palpation;
  • in the second case, pimples look like small tubercles and have different colors (with improper care, a secondary infection may occur and non-inflammatory elements may transform into inflammatory neoplasms).

Non-inflammatory rashes are presented in the form of comedones. These are formed due to blockage of the sebaceous gland ducts with sebum and dead cells. Comedones are divided into:

  • open in the form of black dots, which are formed by blockage of pores on the surface layer of the epidermis;
  • closed - white tubercles or dots, which are called “milia” or “wen” and are formed against the background of blockage of the lower part of the pore on the inside of the skin.

Inflammatory elements are:

  • in the form of papules, which are formed due to the addition of a secondary infection to open comedones, have a size of no more than 1 cm, red or pink;
  • in the form of pustules, which are the next stage after papules, have a size of up to 1 cm, purulent contents and a white head;
  • in the form of nodes that have a bright red, bluish, purple color, up to 3 cm in size, can hurt and leave a keloid scar after healing;
  • in the form of cysts - dense subcutaneous neoplasms, the contents of which are pus (many cystic neoplasms can merge with each other, contributing to the formation of large skin conglomerates).

Acne development stages

If the skin of your back is covered with small pimples, it is recommended to start treatment at this stage. Otherwise, under the influence of certain factors, the rash progresses to subsequent stages of development.

There are 4 of them in total:

  1. At the initial stage, photo-symptoms are presented in the form of small pimples - comedones. There is no inflammatory process.
  2. At stage 2, the formation of red acne and pustules occurs. Therapy at this stage brings a positive prognosis.
  3. At stage 3, acne develops with the formation of large pimples of various types. There is an inflammatory process with redness of the skin and suppuration. After the elements heal, scars remain.
  4. At stage 4, the tumors are large and may bleed. The formation of nodes and cystic elements is observed. At this stage, treatment is difficult.

Before treating any type of acne on the back, it is necessary to determine what contributed to its occurrence.

How to get rid of acne on your back?

When acne occurs on the back, treatment is complicated by a number of factors:

  • The skin on the back is thicker;
  • There are more glands, and the production of sebum is more intense;
  • The back is constantly in contact with clothing, which further irritates the rash.

Medicines

Depending on the nature of the rash and the number of formations, the dermatologist prescribes an individual drug treatment regimen. This may include oral medications aimed at:

  • Elimination of factors that cause acne - antibiotics, retinoids, hormonal pills; in cases where antibiotic therapy does not produce results, medications from the sulfonamide group may be prescribed; this is a last resort due to the extensive list of side effects;
  • Reducing the effects of stress - sedatives and antidepressants;
  • Suppression of an allergic reaction - antihistamines;
  • Accelerated removal of toxins from the gastrointestinal tract - sorbents (like Lactofiltrum and Polysorb).

External agents based on antibiotics, adapalene, benzoyl peroxide or azelaic acid are necessary for regular treatment of the skin. Their action ensures:

  • Antiseptic effect;
  • Reduction of inflammatory processes;
  • Liquefaction of sebum.

Additionally, depending on the skin, special products from the lines of medicinal cosmetics are selected for hygiene procedures. Habitual soaps, shampoos and gels are excluded for the duration of therapy. In some cases, for additional disinfection, doctors recommend wiping the affected areas of the back with boric or salicylic alcohol.

Dietary supplements are effective in cases where the cause of acne is an imbalance of microelements. The main advantage is the natural composition and the absence of additional stress on the body, as a result of which you can resort to organic preparations without fear.

Taking dietary supplements for acne can significantly improve the condition of the skin by enriching the body with essential vitamins and minerals. The most effective are considered:

  • Loma Lux Acnemol. A product designed specifically for acne-prone skin. Has the property of reducing inflammation and reducing the signs of seborrhea, rosacea and acne;
  • Brewer's yeast. The composition includes amino acids, iron and other minerals. This ensures the normalization of secretion production, activates local metabolism, increases the ability of the epidermis to regenerate, and suppresses the activity of pathogenic bacteria;
  • Zincteral. Due to the high content of zinc in the composition, it improves the functioning of the reproductive system, failures in which sometimes cause acne, and reduces the synthesis of skin secretions.

  • If acne is a consequence of another disease, you must carefully follow your doctor’s recommendations for its treatment.

Treatment

Therapy of neoplasms on the dermis of the back is complicated by the fact that the skin in this area is quite thick, and the sebaceous glands are present in large quantities. With inadequate and untimely treatment, the process may become chronic with an increased risk of developing eczema.

The doctor’s task is to eliminate pathogenic bacteria using all available methods, restore the skin, and prevent the reappearance of elements.

Drug treatment allows you to:

  • reduce the activity of the sebaceous glands, reduce the amount of sebum secreted;
  • achieve narrowing of pores;
  • reduce and, over time, eliminate the inflammatory process;
  • accelerate tissue regeneration;
  • reduce the risk of post-acnetic scar formation;
  • increase skin elasticity and smoothness.

Treatment with medications

In most cases, doctors prescribe medications that contain retinol (vitamin A). This microelement allows you to reduce the amount of sebum secreted and has an anti-inflammatory effect. Acne treatment should be comprehensive.

So, disinfectants are also used:

  • Boric alcohol;
  • Furacilin;
  • Salicylic acid;
  • Levomycetin;
  • Hydrogen peroxide.

After the neoplasms have been treated, you can apply a medicinal ointment or cream, which has a drying, anti-inflammatory effect:

  • Sulfur;
  • Zinc;
  • Salicylic acid;
  • Synthomycin liniment.

Potassium permanganate is no less effective for acne. A medicinal solution is made from it, which is used to treat problem areas.

Only a doctor can tell you how to remove inflammatory elements at an advanced stage of development. As a rule, in this case, antibacterial drugs are prescribed in the form of ointments or tablets. The products help eliminate pathogens and reduce the progression of the inflammatory process. Hormone therapy may also be required.
