Tips for teenage girls on how to take care of themselves

Today we’ll look at tips for teenage girls on how to take care of themselves.
Every girl dreams of being beautiful, attractive, charming, and always having a stylish and impeccable look. All this can be achieved even if you are not gifted with natural beauty. The main thing is to love yourself and enjoy every minute of your life. And be able to turn even minor shortcomings into advantages. Being attractive means not only taking care of your appearance, but also watching your manners, behavior and treating others kindly. Let's look at some basic tips that will help a teenage girl take care of herself and always look 100%.

1. Developing style. If you have been looking for a long time how to choose a clothing style for teenage girls, then these tips are for you! A person makes the first impression on others within the first 30 seconds, and this impression subsequently affects relationships in society. Then it is very difficult to change your opinion about yourself, so you need to try to make a good first impression. Your appearance is clothes, posture, hairstyle, facial expressions, gestures, neatness, etc. The right color, style of clothing, shoes, accessories, hairstyle should reveal your personality. It is necessary to correctly emphasize the advantages of your figure, and properly hide the shortcomings. Appearance and accessories are the first thing that others perceive, even before you have time to say anything. Any object that you hold in your hands will certainly attract the attention of others and form an opinion about you. For example, a plastic bag in the hands of a girl who strives to have an elegant look will ruin her image, regardless of the price of her outfit, as will excessive makeup.

2. How to choose the right perfume scent for yourself. One of the most important elements of a stylish look is fragrance. Of course, the best of them is the smell of cleanliness and freshness, but the right perfume will help complete the look successfully. You should know that they are created for women, men and children. Fragrances intended for children and teenagers do not contain alcohol or harmful substances. Perfume is applied to clean skin, not to clothing or jewelry. Usually they are applied one drop at a time behind the ears, on the crook of the arms, temples and in the hollow of the chest. You can spray perfume into the air and then step into that cloud of scent. There are the following types of scents: citrus, fruit, floral, oriental, fern, chypre, woody, amber, sea, spicy, leather.

3. Body care during adolescence for girls. By carefully and properly caring for your body, you will not only get freshness and lightness, but also feel beautiful and confident. Take a shower daily, preferably in the morning and evening. It is better to use gel or cream soap so as not to dry out the skin with regular soap. Gently rub your body with a sponge and do not forget that the washcloth, towel, comb and toothbrush should be exclusively individual. Don't forget to use deodorants and antiperspirants. Periodically, you can take baths with special additives - herbs, salt or fragrant foam. Immediately after the bath, lubricate your hands and feet with cream, rubbing it in so that it is absorbed.

4. Facial care during adolescence for girls. You can use ready-made products by purchasing them in stores. They are designed specifically for the care of teenage skin. Try to buy products from the same series, then they will work optimally. In frosty weather, it is not recommended to go outside earlier than an hour after washing. To properly care for your facial skin, you need to correctly determine its type: normal, dry, oily or combination. You can pamper your facial skin with various masks prepared at home. Be sure to cleanse your face in the morning. Wash your face first with warm and then with cold water. Clean it thoroughly in the evening as well. Natural products have a very good effect on the skin - masks made from fruits, vegetables, berries, calendula and plantain, ground and applied for 10 minutes. If you notice unwanted hairs above your lip, do not cut or shave them - otherwise they will turn into stubble. Never pull hairs out of moles - it's dangerous. The best makeup is a fresh look, when decorative cosmetics are almost invisible. Enjoy your youthful skin and don't tire it out with cosmetics.

5. Get rid of annoying pimples. Almost all teenagers face this problem. If you don’t know how to get rid of acne on your face at home quickly at the age of 12, 13 and 14, then we will help you. The main advice is to touch your face with your hands less during the day and wash your hands more often. Never squeeze inflamed pimples to avoid causing an infection. And in the future it will not distort the face with scars from them. Eliminate fatty, spicy foods, various fast foods and chips from your diet. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, replace coffee and tea with juices, and drink kefir in the morning. All this will help reduce the appearance of acne. Before going to bed, be sure to remove your makeup and wash your face. Avoid stress and stay positive. You can make an effective face mask from clay, which you can buy at any pharmacy.

How to care for teenage skin: advice from cosmetologists

What remedies will save you from teenage acne? Is it possible to prevent stretch marks during a hormonal explosion? Experts answer the most popular questions about teen care.

We interviewed a dozen parents of teenagers and, in fact, teenagers themselves, and found out what aspects of skin care concern them most.

Experts helped us answer our questions:

  • Tiina Orasmäe-Meder , cosmetologist, co-author of the books “Beauty Myths” and “Science of Beauty”, creator of the cosmetic brand Meder Beauty Science.
  • Anna Pavlova , medical consultant at Isdin.
  • Yulia Krasnaya , Ph.D., cosmetologist, dermatovenerologist, clinical and laboratory diagnostician at the Gen87 clinic.

When is it time to start taking care of your skin?

All experts are unanimous: the right time is the beginning of puberty. For girls, when did menstruation begin? For boys, when their voice began to break and their first wet dreams appeared.

“At this time, teenagers usually come to the conclusion that washing, brushing their teeth and putting on clean clothes is necessary not only because their mother demands it, but also because it suddenly becomes important to them. I would advise not to delay the discussion of this topic: if the child does not have time to talk with his parents and cosmetologist, then he will talk with friends and top bloggers, and the result can be unpredictable,” says Tiina Orasmäe-Meder.

Yulia Krasnaya agrees that it is important not to miss the moment: “Teenage skin problems should not be underestimated. Its appearance affects the self-esteem and psycho-emotional state of the child. Proper care will help eliminate these problems without leading to unpleasant consequences - scars and blemishes.”

Is teenage skin different from adult skin?

During puberty, the endocrine system is rebuilt at incredible speed. “In both boys and girls, testosterone levels increase. It is this hormone that triggers increased sebum production,” says Anna Krasnaya.

“The sebaceous glands in adolescence operate at full capacity, sebum is different from what we consider healthy. It may be more viscous or, conversely, more liquid. The vessels also go through a transformation stage, and the sweat glands work more actively. Hair quickly becomes oily, sweat acquires a pungent odor. Physical activity, minimal stress, hot or spicy food, changes in temperature - all this can cause heavy sweating,” explains Tiina Orasmäe-Meder.

Is it different for boys and girls?

The general picture is the same for boys and girls. But since the amount of testosterone in boys is higher, the hyperproduction of sebum and the tendency to inflammation are more pronounced in them.

“In addition, girls usually tend to start washing and caring for their skin at the first sign of inflammation. For boys, this activity seems “girly,” so often treatment does not begin at the initial stage of acne,” notes Yulia Krasnaya.

What products should be included in home care?

Cleansing is the most important stage. It should be soft. The cream is microbiome-friendly and regulates sebum production. If necessary, you can use a serum with an anti-inflammatory effect.

Anna Pavlova points out: “It is worth remembering that if there is acne on the face, then in 80% of cases it has already appeared or will appear on the body. In this case, you need a body product that regulates the secretion of the sebaceous glands.”

Yulia Krasnaya reminds you not to wash your face with soap. It creates an alkaline environment, which is favorable for the development of bacteria.

Also during this period, due to rapid growth, there is a risk of stretch marks appearing on the body. Unfortunately, there are no means that can reliably prevent this. Anna Pavlova explains: “Stretch marks appear due to insufficient elasticity of the skin. The degree of elasticity depends on genetic characteristics and physiological processes. That is, all other things being equal, one will develop stretch marks, another will not.” For prevention, you can use moisturizers - but this is not a panacea.

How to take care of facial skin for teenagers

When the first rashes begin, as well as minor skin problems in schoolchildren, it is then that the need to learn how to care for the facial skin of teenagers becomes an acute problem. After all, it is at this age that the condition of the skin often deteriorates, which can further affect its daily condition.

The main causes of teenage acne

Why do some teenage girls have clear and shiny healthy skin, while others constantly suffer from small rashes and annoying blackheads on the nose? The reasons for such different skin conditions can be both genetics and hormones. In most cases, if parents had problems with acne at a young age, then their child will also have this problem.

But what should those who, unlike their peers, suffer from facial defects do? To do this, you must definitely find out what exactly provoked this condition.

  1. Hormonal imbalance . During adolescence, the child's body begins to gradually transform into the body of an adult. And it is not surprising that hormones during this period simply go through the roof. Therefore, you just need to wait out this period and choose facial care products in order to reduce inflammatory processes on the face. Or, if the situation requires special measures, the gynecologist prescribes special pills.
  2. Poor hygiene . Oddly enough, but dirty hands are the first enemy of the face. Second place goes to a face towel, which is washed once a week at best.
  3. Bang . If you pin your bangs for at least a week, you will immediately notice improvements. Therefore, you can safely abandon bangs, which become fat very quickly.
  4. Nutrition . What do teenagers eat? Often this is cola with chips, crackers and nuts. Pizza, sausage and sweets - all this is reflected on the face in the form of one huge pimple or small rashes. Therefore, all unhealthy food should be thrown into the trash immediately. Nutrition should be complete, with sufficient amounts of protein, carbohydrates and fats. Don't forget to take your vitamins.

Basic rules for proper facial care

There are only three main rules for caring for any facial skin during adolescence:

- proper nutrition and makeup.

Cleansing

Cleansing means properly washing your face. At a young age, when hormone surges begin to increase, you should wash your face twice a day. In this case, you should use only safe products that have been tested by dermatologists. In both girls and boys, starting from the age of 12-15 (and maybe for some even earlier), the skin is prone to rashes and the appearance of comedones. The reason for this may be both increased production of sebum and increased testosterone levels. In addition, during this period it would be useful to frequently change pillowcases and face towels. But it is best to use paper towels for your face - this will prevent germs from accumulating.

Cleansing: just not with milk!

Just imagine how much “nasty” accumulates on your child’s face over the course of a long day: dirt and bacteria settle on it, and then substances waste from the body are released onto the surface of the epidermis. Everything together turns into a breeding ground for microbes that cause acne and blackheads. Therefore, you will have to teach your teenager to cleanse his face twice a day - morning and evening. At the same time, you don’t need to think that the more thoroughly a teenager soaps his face, the better. This barbaric method is only suitable for the body. As for the face, it needs special cleansing preparations. They are available in the form of mousses, gels, foams and milks. Keep in mind that the last option, even if it says “for teenagers,” is not the best choice. The fact is that milk usually contains a large amount of surfactants (surfactants): they destroy the protective lipid mantle of the skin, which makes it even more vulnerable to external irritants, which leads to the appearance of new acne. However, not all gels, mousses and foams from the “for teenagers” series can be called useful and safe. Many of them create a thin film on the skin that clogs the sebaceous ducts, which is why black dots, so-called “comedones,” appear on the face. To avoid such developments, look for the inscription on the label - non-comedogenic.

Naturally, like any other cosmetics, the cleanser should suit your child’s skin type. Oily skin is best treated with a gel with exfoliating components - for example, glycolic acid. It clears clogged pores. And for those with dry and sensitive skin, mousses and foams containing oils are suitable. In addition, it is very important to maintain a moisture balance in the adolescent’s epidermis. Substances from the lipid group - glycerin and squalane - can cope with this task. Other, no less significant ingredients of the cleanser are components that have an anti-inflammatory and softening effect. The best of them are extracts of chamomile, St. John's wort, yarrow and aloe juice.

Facial care depending on skin type

Always before you start caring for your facial skin and using any products, you must first determine your skin type. Since some care products can only aggravate the situation and cause new problems.

Your weekly skin care plan is below.

Dry and normal skin

Caring for this type of skin is easier than for oily skin. You can determine that you have this particular skin type in the morning - if after sleep you do not have an oily sheen in the T-zone, then this is normal skin. If you feel a little dry and dry flaking pieces of skin appear, then the skin is overdried.

In the morning, it will be enough to simply wash your face and pat your face with a paper towel. Why use a paper towel and not a regular body towel - read above. In the evening, you must first prepare the skin - cleanse it using special washes (a soft foam cleanser is best), and then apply evening cream.

Combination and oily skin

If a child of adolescence has combination or oily skin, then he will often suffer from problems such as pimples, blackheads on the nose and even acne.

In this case, all care cosmetics must be selected for oily and combination skin. As a rule, it gives a drying effect and also tightens the skin a little. Read more about caring for combination skin here.

Among the folk remedies that help slightly reduce fat in the T-zone (forehead and nose area) are salicylic acid. But for the face, you need to buy a solution no higher than 2%, since others aggressively dry out the skin. You need to wipe problem areas twice a day - morning and evening.

Calendula tincture has proven itself well among pharmaceutical cosmetics - it is softer and suitable for more combination face types. If your face is light-colored, the tincture may leave a small mark - so 5 minutes after use you need to wash your face with water without soap.

Many teenagers use alcohol-based lotions and tonics to get rid of acne. They reduce excess sebum.

Combination and oily skin

During adolescence, teenagers with combination and oily skin face many problems. Excessive activity of the sebaceous glands provokes the appearance of oily sheen and increases the number and degree of rashes. In such a situation, you cannot do without using a cleansing gel at least twice a day.

A budget solution to the problem would be to purchase a 2% solution of salicylic acid at the pharmacy and spot treat inflammation. Salicylic acid reduces the secretion of sebaceous glands and has an anti-inflammatory effect. This remedy should not be abused. Otherwise, there is a risk of drying out the skin.

Most teenagers are very sensitive to their appearance. The formation of complexes is possible due to skin imperfections. Therefore, you can purchase an anti-inflammatory antibacterial matting pencil.

If you start proper skin care in a timely manner, inflammation and rashes can be avoided. Over time, the skin will acquire a normal, well-groomed appearance, and with age this problem completely disappears.

Salon treatments for teenagers

When you no longer know how to treat acne, you should definitely visit a cosmetologist. He should prescribe suitable skin care products for problem skin. If necessary, he may offer to do facial cleansing or peeling. These treatments will help get rid of accumulated sebum. But you should prepare for the fact that there will be redness on your face. Also, don't be surprised when you see your facial skin peeling. These phenomena are characteristic of the procedure. And they pass quickly. But after that, your face will be clean and without greasy shine.

If a teenager has an oily skin type, he most likely needs facial cleansing. If the problem is that the skin is too dry, the cosmetologist will select special suitable moisturizers, serums and patches.

Self-care – you don’t need a lot of money or time

You may say that there is no time and money for this. But, of course, these are just excuses - time and energy need to be found! To do this, 30 minutes a day is enough, and the results will not keep you waiting for a long time.

When it comes to money, you can see two sides of the coin. First: expensive means do not always pay off. Second: high-quality cream is consumed much more economically. And no one has canceled folk remedies. For example, no better product has yet been invented for masks made from essential oils and clay!

To feel your best, all you need is time, a suitable care product and a few ideas to boot.
