Girls + mustaches – beauty with a “-” sign. How to remove them?

Women are self-critical about their appearance. The fight against unwanted, but natural, hair growth has become an industry. However, in some cases, abnormalities occur at the genetic and hormonal levels. This becomes the cause of hirsutism - the growth of coarse shaft hair in places not intended by evolution: on the cheeks, chin, above the upper lip. This phenomenon may be a consequence of increased production of cortisol, androgens (male sex hormones), disorders of the thyroid gland, adrenal glands, ovaries, and genetic abnormalities. How to eliminate the cause of the pathology and get rid of female mustaches.

Causes of excessive hair growth

Small vellus hairs grow for physiological reasons and do not need to be removed. The presence of a certain hereditary predisposition is a variant of national characteristics. But this phenomenon can also be a symptom of a number of diseases:

  • Itsenko-Cushing syndrome.
  • Adrenogenital syndrome.
  • Thyroid diseases.
  • PCOS – polycystic ovary syndrome.
  • Tumors of the ovaries and adrenal glands.

If male pattern hair growth occurs, endocrinologists recommend examination of the hormonal status and pituitary gland. Idiopathic (harmless, associated with individual characteristics) hirsutism does not require medical intervention; in this case, cosmetic recommendations for removing excess hair are sufficient. What is the best way to remove mustaches, what hair removal and depilation procedures are there?

What causes a woman's mustache?

The causes of antennae are different and require close attention. After all, such a seemingly harmless problem may indicate a rather serious pathology that requires treatment. If this is not a hereditary factor, then a mandatory consultation with an endocrinologist is indicated. He will determine the cause and prescribe a course of treatment. After this, you can begin hair removal.

Among the most well-known causes of this phenomenon in women:

  • Hormonal imbalances, especially increased testosterone levels. This male hormone, being slightly present in the female body, promotes the process of childbirth. However, exceeding the permissible norms makes itself felt by certain failures: coarsening of the figure and voice, hair growth in places not intended by nature, in particular on the face;
  • Pregnancy - changes in the body during this period can cause the unexpected appearance of antennae. There is no need to worry too much, but you should tell your doctor about the problem that has arisen. Usually everything returns to normal after childbirth and breastfeeding. When it doesn’t go away, you need to consult an endocrinologist;
  • Genetic predisposition - this phenomenon can be inherited and passed on from generation to generation. It doesn’t hurt to ask close relatives, perhaps this is determined by nature;
  • The result of malaise - this phenomenon is typical for diseases associated with pathologies of the gallbladder, thyroid gland, and brain. This is another reason for the need to undergo examination if the antennae are growing.

It is normal for women to develop mustaches after 35 years of age, and there are no malfunctions in the functioning of the female organs. This usually indicates a natural factor. The cause of antennae growth may be hormonal therapy. After treatment, everything usually returns to normal.

Depilation methods

Neoplasms of the ovaries and adrenal glands that cause hirsutism are removed surgically. Itsenko-Cushing syndrome is treated with hormonal drugs. PCOS requires long-term use of combined oral contraceptives. They reduce the level of male sex hormones and normalize hair growth according to the female type. For this purpose, Diana-35 is prescribed for six months, two years or more. Existing mustaches above the upper lip are removed at home or resorted to the services of professionals.

Some of the most popular cosmetic procedures include:

  • Mechanical method - using tweezers and a special thread.
  • Physical – electrical, laser, photoepilation.
  • Chemical – removal by applying wax, depilatory cream, sugar mixture, bleaching with a chemical substance.

Tweezers

The easiest way to remove a mustache above your lip at home is to use tweezers. For this procedure, prepare cosmetic tweezers pre-treated with alcohol, antiseptics or lotion, anti-skin irritation cream, a mirror, and cotton pads. The manipulation is done in a well-lit room, with the face facing the light. The area above the upper lip is treated with an antiseptic - a 0.2% solution of chlorhexidine or 3% hydrogen peroxide, after which the hair is grabbed at the root with tweezers and pulled out with a sharp movement along the growth path.

If grabbed incorrectly, it breaks, making the process more difficult. The manipulation is quite painful; you can alleviate the suffering by using a cube of frozen calendula decoction, applying it to the irritated area. Afterwards, the skin is lubricated with Bepanten cream. In some cases, hair grows on moles - removing them is strictly prohibited.

Trading

This method of hair removal is common in the East; cotton or silk thread is used for this purpose. Threading is suitable for fine hair and is considered a safe, economical and effective procedure. If you wish, you can learn the technique and remove the mustache yourself using a thread.

Application of the trading method

It is recommended to carry out the first training on yourself on the shins - this area is the least sensitive. You should prepare alcohol-treated cotton thread, antiseptic, talc, mirror, cream in advance. It is recommended to pre-prepare the skin at the site of intended depilation using a warm waffle towel or gauze pads, applying them to the desired area for five minutes.

  • The steamed skin is treated with an antiseptic, dried, and powdered with talcum powder for the best glide over the surface.
  • A thread about thirty to forty centimeters long is tied into a knot to form a circle.
  • The thumb and index finger of the hand are inserted into the inner surface.
  • Twist it several times to form a figure eight with a section of loops in the center.
  • Simultaneously spreading the fingers of one hand and bringing the fingers of the other together, they make parts of a figure eight of different sizes.
  • By pulling the thread in this way, the center is brought to the hairs to be removed, they fall into the loops.
  • When the position of the fingers is changed to the opposite, the hair caught in the loop is removed.
  • Treat the depilation area with an antiseptic and cream.

The disadvantage of this method is the formation of ingrown hairs, which can only be removed if they are three millimeters long. The advantages include ease of use in any conditions, absence of allergic reactions, skin damage, and the effect of manipulation within three weeks.

Sugar caramel

Removing mustaches using sugaring is considered a simple method used at home. There are several recipes for preparing a mixture for depilation. The most common of them consists of two hundred grams of sugar, twenty milliliters of water and strained juice of ½ part of a lemon. All components are mixed in a glass or heat-resistant container, and wait until the sugar is soaked in water and juice.

  • The dishes are placed on low heat.
  • With constant stirring, bring to a golden-amber color, the consistency of caramel.
  • Remove from heat, cool at room temperature.
  • The skin is treated with chlorhexidine and powder or talc is applied.
  • The sugar paste is kneaded in your hands until it has an elastic consistency and becomes matte.
  • Make a kind of strip of the required size from it, apply it to the mustache as it grows, covering it with a piece of cotton fabric on top for convenience.

Correctly removing mustaches should be done with a sharp movement against the direction of hair growth. The skin is soothed with frozen calendula cubes and lubricated with Panthenol. There is a risk of burns with this depilation method. It is necessary to check the temperature of the mixture before applying it to the skin above the upper lip by touching the ball to the inner surface of the forearm. Sugaring is a painful procedure; the skin in the mustache growth area is delicate; this method of depilation is more suitable for the lower legs.

Removing unwanted hairs above the lip using sugaring

The use of sugar paste for mustache hair removal is becoming increasingly popular among women. There are several reasons for this:

  1. Hypoallergenic.
  2. Skin safe.
  3. Additional cleansing of the skin from dead epithelium.
  4. Efficiency.
  5. Ease of the procedure.
  6. Cheapness.

To properly prepare the paste, use sugar and lemon juice in a 2:1 ratio. The mixture is heated on the stove until it turns into a liquid state, after which it cools to 37-38 °C. After this, the sugar paste is applied to the skin against hair growth, and after final cooling, it is torn off with a sharp movement in the opposite direction. To make it easier to remove the material, you can place a cotton strip on top.

Sugaring allows you to get rid of unwanted hair on your lips for 3-4 weeks. Systematic use of this method leads to permanent damage to the follicles, causing the hair to become thinner and softer over time. This provides an additional positive effect in the fight against mustaches.

Waxing

Cosmetic stores sell wax-impregnated strips for the cold method of removing facial hair. They are selected individually depending on the composition, which includes essential oils and herbs. Having an allergy to these substances can be an obstacle to hair removal. The strips come with instructions that explain how to remove the mustache with wax correctly.

Typically, manufacturers recommend that before using them, blot the skin with lotion, warm the strips in your palms for a few seconds, apply to the desired area along the hair growth path, gradually smoothing them for ten seconds. Then, pulling the skin of the upper lip down, simultaneously tear off the strip in the opposite direction. The procedure involves the use of anti-irritation cream. Hot waxing on the face is not recommended.

Mustache waxing

Removing mustaches with wax

Despite the high degree of pain, wax depilation is one of the most common methods. Before using wax, wipe your face with tonic - the skin should be clean, dry and oil-free. To avoid burns, be sure to check the temperature of the melted wax on the inside of your hand.

During the procedure, strictly follow the instructions indicated on the package. Afterwards, remove any remaining wax with special wipes or any vegetable oil and treat the area with an antiseptic.

Waxing irritates the skin and makes it drier, so be sure to apply a soothing and moisturizing gel and exfoliate the skin after a few days to prevent ingrown hairs. Also, do not forget to use sun protection to prevent unwanted pigmentation.

Cream

Removing antennae at home is carried out using a special cream that can dissolve keratin without causing harm to the bulb and dermis. Depilatory cream is selected individually, depending on skin type. It contains chemical compounds, oils, herbal ingredients, and is sold in cosmetic stores.

Can whiskers be removed with depilatory cream intended for other parts of the body?

Manufacturers recommend using only an appropriate product for the face; it contains aggressive chemicals designed for thin, sensitive skin. This is one of the painless hair removal methods.

Technique:

  • Apply the cream to clean skin above the upper lip with a special spatula.
  • Exposure on the skin (time indicated in the instructions).
  • Removing remaining dissolved hair by scraping.

Disadvantages - rapid resumption of growth, since the bulb is not removed, the possibility of allergic reactions. Before using chemical hair removal methods, dermatologists recommend testing the cream. A little product is applied to the inner surface of the forearm and left for twenty minutes. If the reaction is positive, depilation is not performed.

Is it possible to use an epilator or razor if it is not possible to use other methods of combating hirsutism?

The area above the upper lip has a special blood supply; all procedures should carry a minimal risk of infection and irritation. Therefore, the use of an epilator and razor is undesirable!

Bleaching

To reduce the intensity of the color of the antennae, use a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide and freshly squeezed lemon juice. These substances neutralize pigment without removing hair. To achieve the effect, it is recommended to lubricate problem areas for 15 minutes twice a day, followed by rinsing with warm water and applying Bepanten or Panthenol cream. If signs of irritation appear, the procedures are stopped.

Perhydrol and ammonia are not recommended for use due to the risk of burns.

Is it worth removing the mustache above the upper lip?

When a girl begins to feel complex about her dark mustache, it’s time to remove or lighten it. This cosmetic problem is not subjective, because men really pay attention to women’s lips. The choice of method to solve this problem depends on the individual characteristics of vellus hair growth, its color, length and hardness.

Slowly growing mustaches are easier to bleach without bothering with painful procedures to remove them.

But long hair will create problems even if it is lightened, so it is better to epilate or shave it regularly. In any case, a cosmetic defect must be eliminated so that the woman continues to feel beautiful.

Hair removal methods

It is impossible to permanently remove unwanted hair, including mustaches above the upper lip, even with the help of special equipment, the availability of conditions for the procedures and the absence of contraindications. After completing a course of hair removal using a laser or light, complete disappearance of hair is observed, but this effect must be maintained once a year to destroy “dormant” follicles. Hardware methods include exposure to current, light, and laser.

Electrolysis

This method of hair removal involves applying a weak electrical discharge to the hair follicle using a special electrode, followed by heating and melting. The growth zone is located in the follicle; its destruction ceases the existence of the hair without the possibility of restoration. The technique is used during the least solar activity during the year; it is suitable for any thickness, color, density of hairs, but their length should not exceed six millimeters.

Electrolysis is performed with a needle or tweezers. When using an electrode-tweezers, grab each hair separately and hold it for two minutes to apply the current. A needle electrode with a thickness of no more than 0.1 mm is applied to the follicle, and the applied current discharge destroys the growth zone. There are several types of needles; they consist of different metal alloys and have a wide range of diameters and shapes. The selection is made individually depending on the pain sensitivity threshold and the presence of allergic reactions.

Galvanic electrolysis, Blend, Flash, sequence-blend, sequence-flash are the main types of electrolysis. They differ in the strength and frequency of current exposure, which are selected using computer programs based on the structural features of the skin. The method of hair removal using current is a painful procedure; it requires several exposure sessions to achieve results; it has its own contraindications:

  • Any skin diseases at the site of application.
  • Infectious processes in the body at the time of the procedure of any localization.
  • Diseases of the cardiovascular and endocrine systems.
  • Neoplasms.
  • Mental disorders.
  • Pregnancy, breastfeeding period.
  • Vasculitis and other autoimmune diseases.
  • Metal intolerance.

The antennae are removed after local anesthesia with lidocaine in specialized beauty salons and clinics. If the rules of manipulation are violated, infection and scar changes are possible. Cosmetologists recommend not washing your face for 24 hours after the procedure; using cosmetics and creams is allowed after 48 hours. It is advised to visit the gym, swimming pool, sauna, open reservoirs after a week, and sunbathing only after fourteen days.

Photoepilation

With the help of krypton lamps, a light beam is directed to the base of the follicle, it is absorbed by melanin (pigment), the light energy is converted into heat, and the hair follicle melts. The technique is the least painful.

To use photoepilation, the hair length must be 2 mm; it is not very effective in removing light and gray hair with minimal melanin content. Before the procedure, they are examined by a dermatologist to exclude contraindications, and do not sunbathe for a month. The skin of dark people contains a large amount of melanin; photoepilation is dangerous for them. The steps of the procedure include:

  • Applying a protective gel to the skin above the upper lip.
  • Eye protection with special glasses.
  • Placement of the light beam source over the problem area.
  • Exposure to flashes of light for several minutes.
  • Removing protective gel.
  • Moisturize the skin with a soothing cream.

To completely remove female antennae, several procedures are carried out with a minimum break of two weeks. Despite the lack of direct contact with the skin, photoepilation can lead to a number of complications in the form of burns, acne, dermatitis, eye damage, increased sweating in the treated area, scarring, and neoplasms. The list of contraindications and management of the recovery period corresponds to that for electrolysis.

  • Qool hair removal
  • Elos hair removal

Laser hair removal method: 1 - before the procedure; 2. - after the 1st session; 3. - after 2 procedures.

Laser hair removal

The point of application of the laser is the melanin located in the hair. The technique is effective in the presence of dark hair, is non-contact, and guarantees 100% removal of antennae. During laser hair removal, the hair follicle is destroyed by selective photothermolysis without a chance of recovery; complications rarely occur.

The effect does not extend to surrounding tissues and does not damage them. Laser hair removal of the mustache growth zone in women using an alexandrite laser is considered the most effective; after its exposure, the hairs fall out immediately, it is the fastest, suitable for Europeans, painless, does not come into contact with the skin, and has a sufficient diameter.

There are other types of devices. The diode laser is very compact, but after epilation with this device, hair falls out within 10-14 days, the procedure requires a protective gel, the diameter of the beam is small, which makes it difficult to carry out, entails the risk of complications, and causes pain. Neodymium is the only laser that is used for hair removal on dark-skinned people that has a scanning system, it is considered the safest, the most painful, and not very fast. All laser procedures are performed with glasses to protect the eyes from damage.

Is it possible for a girl to cut her mustache?

There is a myth that after cutting or shaving, women's vellus hair becomes coarser and darker. And there is a basis for this belief. The tip of the naturally growing hair is soft and flexible. And after cutting it off at the root, a thick and hard rod appears on the surface. Therefore, after 2-3 days, a semblance of stubble appears on the skin, although it also softens naturally over time.

Thus, the internal structure of the hair does not change even after a long haircut or shaving. Their growth does not accelerate, and the number of active follicles on the skin does not increase. The only disadvantage of mechanical cutting of hair on the lip is its temporary stiffness, which can cause discomfort and irritation when kissing.

You have to shave your mustache once every 2-3 days, which also scares off many women. Although vellus hair can be quickly removed if necessary, cutting it off is the best method.

We remove using sugaring

This method is also practiced in salons, but it will be much easier and cheaper to carry out a similar procedure at home yourself.

You will need a small amount of sugar paste. You can buy it in a specialty store or make it: mix 10 tablespoons of sugar with a spoon of water and the juice of half a lemon. Cook the mixture over very low heat until it turns a golden caramel color. Wait until the paste has cooled, take a small cake, knead it in your hands until it turns white and begin removing hairs.

  1. Clean the surface of the skin, remove water.
  2. Stretch the paste with your fingers over the skin with unwanted hairs against the hair growth and immediately remove it in one precise movement along the hair growth. The paste must be pulled off along with the adhered hairs.

The same cake can be reused. If sticking occurs (the product does not come off the surface of the skin), first apply baby talc.

The hairs are removed from the roots and begin to grow again after 1-2 weeks. The procedure requires repetition, and in order to carry it out, you need the mustache to be no shorter than 5 millimeters; it is not effective for eliminating the fuzz. But it is very economical, does not require the involvement of outsiders and a lot of time.

How to prepare

Any manipulation of the body requires preparation of the patient. And laser hair removal of hair above the upper lip is no exception. Here are the main points to remember:

  • hair should be between 3 and 5 mm long. This is important for effective removal. They usually grow to this size within two weeks;
  • During the same “before” period, the use of tetracycline antibiotics is prohibited: rhondomycin, monoclin, tetracycline itself and derivatives. Read the instructions for the drugs - all the information about the composition is there;
  • Two-week tanning taboo;
  • Three days before removal, do not wipe the problem area with alcohol-based products;
  • The area “for epilation” is cleared of other germs several hours before irradiation.

This is interesting ! The strength of well-groomed hair can be compared to aluminum - it can easily withstand a 100-gram load.
