Face resurfacing at home is a special procedure. How is it carried out, why is it needed at all, and how exactly is it useful? These questions are asked today by many women who are no strangers to various cosmetic innovations; they are happy to try something original and interesting. You can carry out different types of grinding at home: it can be surface mechanical treatment and grinding with chemical compounds (fruit acids are most often used). The rest, as a rule, require special training, although units for light ultrasonic exposure at home are now being sold with very detailed instructions.
The essence of the procedure
At home, it is carried out to improve the general condition of the skin, prevent the occurrence of inflammatory elements, restore firmness and elasticity.
Perhaps only a superficial effect, grinding or dermabrasion helps remove dead cells, normalizing the processes of respiration and saturation with nutrients. In salons, in addition to the superficial skincare procedure, a medium and deep skincare procedure is prescribed.
It is possible to solve complex aesthetic problems, cope with deep wrinkles, smooth out scars and scars. It is recommended to consult a specialist in case of severe cosmetic defects, acne, or age-related changes.
A dermatocosmetologist will help you choose the optimal program and choose the most effective type of resurfacing, taking into account individual characteristics, age, and skin type.
Self-care cannot solve problems such as porous skin, jowls, and pronounced folds. But home procedures allow you to maintain the normal condition of the integument, activate blood flow and lymphatic drainage, and strengthen thin blood vessels. Removing dead skin cells allows you to remove toxins and oxidants, improve color, and prevent the formation of wrinkles.
Kinds:
- Mechanical - compositions with abrasive particles are used or the removal of keratinized epithelium is carried out using special devices. The main purpose of the effect is to separate keratinized particles without injuring healthy cells of renewed tissues. The composition may contain salt, algae, corals, pearl sand, and herbal preparations. Professional and therapeutic lines include effective scrubs for different skin types and age groups. Homemade remedies are no less effective.
- Chemical peeling is based on the action of acids; it has a less traumatic effect, which also allows you to get rid of pigmentation and restore hydrobalance. At home, acidic compounds are used for surface grinding that do not penetrate into the deep layers of the epidermis. You can use professional products or prepare a recipe for chemical grinding yourself. Unlike salon procedures, it can be used throughout the year; the gentle effect does not violate the skin’s protective barrier.
- Hardware resurfacing is represented by brossage and vacuum peeling. Using cosmetic devices, you can remove not only dead skin cells, but also sebaceous plugs and comedones. Used in combination with chemical or mechanical peeling to achieve maximum effect.
Why do you need facial resurfacing ↑
Over time, dead skin cells accumulate and clog pores, leaving skin looking dull and tired. Laser skin resurfacing, offered by many beauty clinics, effectively removes dead cells, but the procedure is too harsh on the skin and can cause redness and irritation for hours or even days. If you're looking for skin rejuvenation options, know that there are other non-laser options to remove the dead outer layer for a more youthful, refreshed appearance.
Usually, when we talk about how to sand leather at home, two types of sanding come to mind - mechanical and surface chemical. These methods are the easiest to implement at home, plus they are quite safe and do not require any medical or cosmetic skills.
Indications for use
This is a basic home care procedure recommended for all skin types. There are no age restrictions; you can start using mechanical and chemical types of cleansing from adolescence to combat acne and excess synthesis of sebaceous secretions.
After 25 years, there is a natural decrease in metabolic processes, the synthesis of collagen and elastin slows down. To prevent sagging and the formation of wrinkles, it is worth carrying out regular care that activates intracellular processes.
Indications:
- tired, stressed skin;
- pigmentation;
- traces of photo and chronoaging;
- blackheads, comedones, acne;
- lumpy structure;
- unhealthy color;
- dryness, peeling;
- excessive secretion of sebium.
Efficiency of the technique
Unlike salon resurfacing, which requires a course of treatment no more than 2 times a year, home methods are distinguished by their gentle action, the absence of tissue trauma, and the risk of complications.
Home mechanical and chemical grinding is used regularly to maintain normal condition and improve metabolic processes. With just one procedure, it is impossible to solve the problems of porous, oily skin or restore the youth of fading dermis.
For complex aesthetic problems, you need to contact a specialist who will select the optimal program.
Grinding efficiency:
- removal of dead cells;
- narrowing of pores;
- improvement of skin structure;
- lightening pigmentation;
- restoration of healthy tone;
- increasing firmness and elasticity;
- reduction in the number and depth of superficial wrinkles.
The result is not comparable to professional treatment; improvement in skin condition is observed a month after regular use. Mechanical compositions are recommended for oily, normal dermis to be used 2 times a week. Chemical exfoliants are universal, suitable for both problematic and dry, sensitive skin. It is recommended to use 1-2 times a week; you can increase the effectiveness with the help of portable covers.
Frequency
The frequency of home skin resurfacing depends on many factors, including the type of epidermis:
- Regular gommage and brushing for oily epidermis can be carried out at intervals of two to three days, and dry skin once a week.
- Acid peeling with fruits can be carried out at intervals of a day for oily epidermis, and at intervals of two days for sensitive skin.
- Salicylic acid on oily skin can be used no more than twice a week (if we are talking about low-concentrated masks), and no more than 1 time in 2 weeks when using a more highly concentrated solution. On dry skin, non-concentrated masks can be used once a week, but concentrated ones are simply not suitable for it.
- Peeling with calcium chloride is performed only when caring for oily skin. It is carried out no more than once every two weeks.
Of course, in order to get recommendations for caring for specific skin, you need to seek help from a cosmetologist. The specialist will identify the existing problems and tell you whether home peeling procedures will help with them.
Devices for home use
Darsonval LW-018 is a professional device that can also be used for home care. The impact is carried out using high-frequency alternating current, carried out by vacuum glass electrodes.
There are 2 options for darsonvalization:
- a silent discharge involves moving across the skin, accompanied by an increase in temperature and light tissue massage, used to treat problematic skin and restore the elasticity of fading dermis;
- during a spark discharge , the nozzle does not touch the integument, is located at a distance of up to 4 mm, the air is saturated with ozone, a slight tingling, burning sensation is felt, and is used to accelerate the healing of the integument after traumatic procedures.
A positive effect can be noticed after a course consisting of 8–12 sessions. Price - 1850 rub.

Two-phase peeling
If you want to achieve ideal smoothness of your face, complement the turmeric gommage mask with two-phase peeling. Carry out the procedure twice a week - the skin will be polished as if you regularly visit a cosmetologist and undergo salon procedures with a polishing effect. All you need is a ready-made peeling and one secret ingredient that can be found in any kitchen.
Phase one: traditional
Choose an all-season peeling from pharmacy or professional cosmetics. You need a delicate product that does not provoke peeling and does not cause burning. The ideal option is milk peeling. In such products, the main active substance is lactic acid. This substance is also produced by the human body, so the skin will not react to the product in an unexpected way.
Choose peeling products with lactic acid: they are the most gentle (https://www.woman39.ru)
Milk peelings provide deep cleansing of the skin. They remove keratinized particles of the dermis, remove impurities, but do not provoke peeling. The skin will become perfectly smooth after two weeks of regular treatment. But even after the first peeling, the effect will be noticeable. When using the product, it is important to follow the manufacturer's instructions. The composition must be washed off the face thoroughly.

After you apply peeling to your face, do not rush to wash the product off your hands. Rub it over your hands: let the skin of your hands also cleanse and become smooth.
Phase two: secret
There is one secret that allows you to make your skin perfectly smooth: use fresh tomato juice. Tomato contains many beneficial substances that can transform your face. Thanks to acids, the dermis is toned and strengthened. Tomato juice makes the skin elastic, firm, and moisturized. In this simple way you can improve the functioning of the sebaceous glands, restore a healthy complexion and get rid of the first signs of aging.
Tomato is a faithful assistant in the fight against skin imperfections (https://moimozg.ru)
What do we have to do? It's simple:
- Cut the tomato into slices.
- Pass tomato slices over your skin immediately after the milk peeling procedure. The cleansed skin is well saturated with tomato juice, which is why you may feel a burning sensation in the first minutes.
- Wait about five minutes. Wash thoroughly with plain water.
- Wipe your skin with tonic.
- Apply a moisturizing serum, preferably with oils.
After tomato rubbing, the skin will become smooth and smooth (https://www.pinme.ru)
Tomato juice can cause allergies. Check how your skin reacts to tomato. First, wipe the skin on the bend of your elbow with a tomato circle. Wait half an hour and see if there is a reaction. If everything is fine, you can apply the tomato to your face. If you have redness or rashes, give up the idea of cleansing your skin with tomato. Just a mask and peeling will be enough to polish your face.
Preparatory stage
Unlike resurfacing in a salon, the home procedure does not require testing to identify contraindications.
It is better to prescribe a course of sessions for the autumn-winter period, but if the skin is not prone to pigmentation, it can be carried out throughout the year.
There are several recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of home care:
- in a few weeks you can introduce creams with AHA acids into your care; the active components facilitate the removal of keratinized epithelium;
- Select decorative products with anti-comedogenic composition;
- a week before the event, you should reduce physical activity, stop drinking alcohol, salty, spicy, and fatty foods.
Attention! Some medications can affect the condition of the integument; before the procedure it is not recommended to take antibacterial, hormonal, or drugs that affect blood flow.
Procedure protocol at home
It is better to carry out the procedure in the evening, before the weekend, so as not to expose the skin to the aggressive action of the environment the next day. The session does not take more than half an hour, after which it is advisable not to engage in vigorous activity, sports, or cleaning, so as not to provoke complications.
Execution steps:
- Clean your face from decorative cosmetics, dust, sebium particles.
- Apply a thermal mask or warm compress to open the pores as much as possible. You can also use a peeling roll if you have rosacea.
- When using cosmetic devices, you must first apply a scrub or medicinal composition and treat the entire surface of the face, paying special attention to problem areas.
- If only compounds with abrasive particles are used, it is recommended to perform a light superficial massage, being careful not to stretch the skin. There should be no discomfort or pain present. If burning or tingling occurs, rinse off the peeling or gommage with warm water.
- Then apply a restorative, regenerating mask selected according to your skin type.
- Finally, use a moisturizer or nourishing serum.
Mechanical grinding options
Mechanical peeling is the easiest way to rid your face of dead cells and make it soft and smooth. No special skills are required to carry out the procedure. Just read the recipe and strictly follow the recommendations.
The main component of such peeling is a material with abrasive particles. Many substances are suitable for this purpose: crushed nut shells, sand, etc. The main thing is that the particles are small and do not damage the epidermis. Apply such products to clean, moisturized skin and rinse with moderately warm water.
Sanding with a brush
This peeling method is ideal for problematic epidermis with disturbed relief, scars and acne marks. To prepare the mask you will need only two components – badyaga and peroxide (3%). These affordable products are available in all pharmacies.
Bodyaga has the following cosmetic properties:
- exfoliates the stratum corneum;
- dilates blood vessels;
- activates blood flow;
- whitens, evens out the shade;
- resolves scars;
- smoothes wrinkles;
- treats acne.
Hydrogen peroxide is no less useful for the dermis. It helps cope with inflammation and pimples, and cleanses pores well.
Prepare and use the product as follows:
- Combine badyagu with peroxide in equal parts.
- Wait until the composition begins to foam.
- Wear gloves and carefully distribute the mixture over problem areas (without touching the skin near the lips and eyes).
- They wait 20 minutes.
- Moisten the mask with peroxide and do a light massage for a minute.
- Wait another 10 minutes and wash off the product with warm water.
During the procedure, a tingling sensation is usually felt, and the treated areas turn slightly red. There is no need to worry - this is a normal skin reaction, and the redness will go away during the day. But it’s better not to go outside after the procedure, so perform peeling on weekends and stay at home.
Light peeling may occur for several days. A regular moisturizer will help soften your face. But do not use it immediately after peeling, but a little later.
To achieve noticeable improvements, you need to conduct several sessions - at least eight. The frequency of procedures is 1 time per week. After this course, the skin will brighten, a natural blush will appear on the face, scars and other irregularities will smooth out.
Important! Peeling with badyaga has contraindications. These include:
- dilated capillaries;
- severe inflammation;
- irritation;
- dry and sensitive skin.
It is also important to remember that the mask increases light sensitivity. Therefore, such peeling courses are not carried out in the summer. The optimal time for procedures is autumn and winter.
This simple method is essentially a scrub. It is good not only for the face, but also for the skin of the whole body. The main indications for the procedure are thin, dry skin and signs of aging.
You can use different components as an abrasive: citrus peels, cereals, algae. The main thing is to grind the material well. Immediately before use, the abrasive substance is mixed with the liquid base. For example, you can take any cosmetic cream or lotion. And if you want to pamper your skin with a natural remedy, use sour cream, yogurt or kefir.
And now we suggest you familiarize yourself with a couple of effective recipes:
- Gommage for dry skin. Take 2 parts of semolina and add 1 part of oatmeal to it. Combine the cereal mixture with a small amount of orange zest (it should be crushed into powder). Mix the resulting dry composition with cosmetic cream.
- Gommage for oily skin. Combine 1 part dry cream, 1 part rice flour, 2 parts barley flour. Take any cosmetic foundation and mix it with powder.
This grinding method involves treating the skin with a special brush. You can buy it at a cosmetic store. It’s easy to do home brossage:
- The face is treated with a cleanser.
- Take the brush and massage your face for several minutes.
- Wash off any remaining product with warm water.
The procedure must be performed regularly. The frequency of sessions varies depending on the cleansing mixture recipe.
Chemical home polishing
Conventional chemical peeling successfully replaces expensive laser procedures. The most convenient option is to use ready-made cosmetics with fruit acids. But if you have some free time, prepare the composition yourself. Homemade mixtures are much better than store-bought ones! They do not contain harmful additives and act more gently.
There are many recipes for peeling masks. We offer several available options.
Peels with fruit acids
- Orange mask
A small citrus is crushed in a blender along with the peel. Orange pulp is mixed with soft fruit puree (peach, plum, banana or apricot). The resulting peeling is applied to the face in a thick layer and washed off after 10 minutes. Then you need to use a nourishing cream.
- Lemon peeling
If you believe the reviews, this particular fruit peeling is the most effective. It is very simple to prepare the composition: fresh lemon juice is diluted with water in a 1:1 ratio. Wipe clean skin with the resulting solution and wait 5 minutes. Then they wash their face and apply moisturizer.
Half a peeled apple and 5 strawberries are pureed and mixed. The finished fruit mass is distributed in a thick layer over the face. The procedure time is 5 minutes, no more. The remaining product is washed off with warm water, then the skin is treated with a regular moisturizer.
Attention! Fruit mixtures contain a large number of active ingredients. Therefore, a slight burning sensation may be felt during the procedures. Don't worry, this is a normal reaction. But if there is severe discomfort, you need to take action. Urgently wash off the mask and take an antihistamine, such as Tavegil or Suprastin.
Effective skin resurfacing with pharmaceutical preparations
- Salicylic acid
In addition to fruit mixtures, you can use pharmaceutical preparations for home peeling. One of them is salicylic acid. It effectively fights germs and helps get rid of acne. After using it, the skin peels slightly. Don't worry, everything will be restored very soon.
Pharmacies sell solutions with different concentrations - 5% and 10%. For cosmetic procedures, it is better to take the 5% option. It is advisable to dilute it before first use. The product is applied to the skin in 4 layers, wait a little and wash off the residue. Then make a moisturizing mask.
Important to remember! The frequency of chemical peels depends on your skin type. If it is oily, then procedures can be carried out every week. But owners of dry dermis need to be careful - once a month will be enough.
How to care for your skin after peeling?
First of all, keep this point in mind: you cannot use decorative cosmetics or be exposed to sunlight during the day. So, do your sanding on the weekend and stay home.
Home resurfacing is an affordable method of combating cosmetic imperfections. But you need to do it regularly, otherwise you will not achieve the desired effect. Remember this and always find time for procedures. Let your delicate skin shine with health and beauty!
Healing period
There is no recovery period as such. After the procedure, there may be redness, slight swelling, and sensitivity. Within a few hours the skin condition returns to normal. Care consists of restoring the protective barrier, preventing the appearance of pigmentation, dryness, and peeling.
Rules for the healing period:
- the next day, choose soft foams and gels without abrasive particles for cleansing; use alcohol-free tonics for toning;
- to moisturize and accelerate regeneration, as well as to prevent sensitivity, use creams, serums with hyaluronic acid, aloe, and plant extracts;
- It is advisable to use decorative cosmetics after 1–2 days; for toning, use products with an anti-comedogenic effect; for oily skin, it is advisable to choose powder enriched with zinc;
- You should not visit the sauna, solarium, or gym for about a week; it is also recommended to stop drinking alcohol;
- You should use sunscreen before going outside.
Precautionary measures
Home resurfacing does not require special preparation; the main measures are to use a cosmetological method in the absence of contraindications.
Can be performed during pregnancy, lactation, and throughout the year. When using portable devices, it is important to follow the manufacturer's operating instructions.
Contraindications for use:
- individual intolerance;
- foci of inflammation;
- acne in the active phase;
- violation of the integrity of the integument;
- warts, papillomas, moles on target areas;
- postoperative period;
- viral infections;
- elevated body temperature.
Before use, the composition should be tested on a small area of skin to prevent an allergic reaction. If you are prone to pigmentation, it is not recommended to carry out the course during periods of solar activity. Products with a high SPF protection factor must be used.
Side effects are rarely observed and go away on their own without additional effort. There may be redness, burning, irritation, mild swelling, which lasts no more than 2-3 hours. If you have a severe allergic reaction, or Quincke's edema, you should consult a doctor.
Advantages and disadvantages
Professional resurfacing is a painful, traumatic procedure; the healing period is accompanied by prolonged discomfort and requires special care. But the effect can be compared to plastic surgery.
Home dermabrasion is a gentle method of maintaining normal skin condition. With regular practice, you can improve the general condition of the skin, cope with superficial wrinkles, and reduce the secretion of sebium.
But you can only smooth out deep wrinkles, restore an even structure after acne, and whiten photopigmentation by turning to a professional.
Advantages:
- possibility of carrying out throughout the year;
- accessibility of the procedure;
- general improvement in the condition of the integument;
- no side effects;
- no recovery period;
- a small list of contraindications;
- It is possible to choose the type of polishing according to your skin type.
Minuses:
- ineffective method for solving complex aesthetic problems;
- requires coursework.
You can do the polishing yourself, using effective recipes or advances in hardware cosmetology. The procedure is suitable for caring for all types of dermis, as a result, metabolic processes are improved. Regularity is the key to beautiful, healthy skin.
How to polish leather at home?
Of course, at home it is not possible to carry out full-fledged cosmetic procedures, for example, laser resurfacing or dermabrasion. They require the use of special equipment and certain skills of the cosmetologist. However, you can also perform some types of skin resurfacing at home. In particular, they carry out on their own:
- Mechanical peeling.
- Chemical peeling.
To perform such procedures, various cosmetics can be used that affect the upper layers of the skin and help exfoliate dead cells. Compositions for their implementation can be purchased in specialized stores or made on your own from improvised means.
Mechanical methods
Cosmetologists assure that the mechanical peeling procedure is not difficult to perform at home. To do this, there is no need to purchase any special tools or master new skills. Of the mechanical types of grinding at home, it is quite possible to carry out:
- Gommage. This procedure is essentially a skin scrubbing, but it is gentler and gentle on the skin.
- Brossage. The essence of this manipulation is to treat the skin using special brushes.
How to do gommage?
This procedure can be performed not only on the skin of the face, but also on other parts of the body. It will be a great find for those with aging epidermis. To perform gommage, you can stock up on various ingredients, for example:
- Cereal crops.
- Algae.
- Medicinal herbs.
- Tangerine peels or other types of zest, etc.
Before use, the selected component must be thoroughly ground using a coffee grinder. As a result, you should get an abrasive, which in turn must be combined with a cream or lotion or any fermented milk product, for example, sour cream or kefir. Additional use of spices and essential oils (they should be used in small quantities and with care) can activate blood circulation processes in the skin. Let's look at a couple of effective recipes:
- For dry skin. Combine 2 shares of semolina and 1 share of oatmeal (cranked in a coffee grinder). Add a little orange zest, grinding it to a powder. Combine the resulting mass with a cosmetic base.
- For oily skin. Combine 1 part rice flour, 1 part dry cream, and 2 parts barley flour. Use to connect to the base.
Before using gommage, it is necessary to steam the skin, and then apply gommage to it using light massaging movements. Leave the product for 10 minutes, then roll it with your fingertips. After finishing the procedure, wash with water.
Brossage
To perform this procedure, you need to stock up on a special face brush, which is sold in cosmetics stores. It can be based on both natural and synthetic brushes. To carry out the procedure you need:
- Wash.
- Apply a cleansing product to the skin.
- Massage the skin along the massage lines with a brush for 1-5 minutes.
It is worth paying special attention to problem areas, for example, with combination skin - zone T. At the end of the procedure, it is very important to fully sterilize and dry the brush.
Chemical recipes
Chemical skin resurfacing can also be done at home. For this procedure, you can arm yourself with fruit acids, for example, citric acid. Today there are quite a few chemical peeling products on sale that are used at home in accordance with the instructions. With the right choice of peeling composition, any skin can benefit:
- With this procedure, the dry epidermis receives an active blood flow, its cells are renewed. The skin gains elasticity and is saturated with moisture.
- If the skin is excessively oily, you can stabilize the functioning of the sebaceous glands - reduce the intense synthesis of sebum, and also carry out deep cleansing, reducing the risk of acne.
- Aging skin receives a lot of nutrients, becomes smoother and more elastic. Wrinkles smooth out and become less noticeable.
The easiest way to do chemical peeling is with different fruits, for example, seasonal strawberries. It needs to be kneaded to a paste and applied to cleansed skin. Massage the product in the direction of the massage lines and leave for 10 minutes. Rinse off the mixture with warm water, then use a nourishing or moisturizing cream.
To achieve an excellent effect, you should carry out a course of 10 strawberry procedures at intervals of a day. For sensitive skin, it is better to pause between treatments for 2 days.
Salicylic peeling
There are several types of salicylic peels that can be performed at home. To carry out a simple superficial peeling you can:
- Combine 1 crushed aspirin tablet and ½ tsp. water. The resulting mass should be applied to cleansed skin treated with an alcohol-containing tonic (for degreasing). The composition must be spread along the massage lines, avoiding areas near the eyes. At the same time, it is very important not to get on the lips, papillomas and moles. After 5 minutes, you need to wash with enough water and apply cream to the skin. The procedure can be repeated up to 2 times. in Week. To achieve a lasting result, you need to complete a course of 10 peelings. This method of skin resurfacing can be a wonderful option for those with oily and problematic epidermis.
- Crush an aspirin tablet to a powder and combine with 7 ml of any fatty cream. Apply the mixture to cleansed skin and leave for an hour. This recipe is perfect for girls with dry or highly sensitive skin types.
- Crush 1 aspirin tablet, mix with 15 ml of water, a pinch of soda and 5 ml of honey. Apply the mixture to the skin for 5 minutes, then rinse with water. This recipe is perfect for oily skin.
- Purchase glycolic acid and salicylic solution at the pharmacy. Combine these substances in a ratio of 1:9. Use with a brush to apply to cleansed skin. At the same time, be sure to refrain from rubbing the mixture; you need to smear it with broad strokes. The duration of the procedure is only 3 minutes. This rejuvenating composition is perfect for aging skin.
Salicylic peeling perfectly dissolves blackheads, tightens the oval of the face and returns a healthy color to the skin. Of course, after such a procedure, it takes some time to restore the normal state of the epidermis.
Calcium chloride
Calcium chloride peeling is one of the most popular home skin resurfacing recipes. This procedure helps:
- Tighten and cleanse pores.
- Renew the top layer of skin.
- Even out minor redness and depressions (including acne marks).
- Dry and mattify oily skin.
This type of peeling can only be used to care for oily epidermis. Also, those with combination skin can use calcium chloride on the T-zone.
To carry out peeling, you need to stock up on a pharmaceutical solution of calcium chloride (5% or 10%, the latter will need to be diluted by half with water), as well as ordinary baby soap. The procedure is performed in several stages:
- The solution is applied to cleansed skin with a brush in a thin layer. In this case, you need to go around the area above the upper lip, as well as the areas around the eyes.
- Next, you need to wait until the layer dries and repeat the application. In total, up to 8 layers of medicine can be applied to the skin.
- Afterwards, you need to thoroughly soap your fingertips and apply the resulting soap foam to your face. The soap mass will react with calcium chloride, forming crystals or flakes. They need to be “rolled” from the skin in the direction of the massage lines.
- Remains of the product must be washed off with warm water.
After completing the procedure, it is quite possible to apply a Polysorb mask to the skin for 15 minutes. Next, it is recommended to lubricate the skin with a nourishing or moisturizing cream that has soothing qualities.
