Contraindications for waxing

Waxing (warm, cold, hot) is a popular way to combat excessive hair growth. The procedure is carried out in professional salons, as well as at home. The method helps to get rid of excess hair for a long time (3-4 weeks). Regular sessions thin the rods and destroy the bulbs. Vegetation becomes indistinct. Many users note: gradually unnecessary fluff stops appearing.

The painfulness of the procedure depends on the person’s sensitivity threshold; in girls, on the phase of the menstrual cycle. The time of day influences (the height of the pain threshold changes over 24 hours). Depilation with warm or cold wax is a simple manipulation, but violation of the algorithm provokes complications (ingrown hairs, hematomas, irritation). Side effects are observed if proper skin care is not followed.

Waxing involves removing only the superficial part of the hair and partially damaging the hair follicle.

The advantages of waxing do not exclude the need to study the list of contraindications. You should definitely read them before starting the procedure.

Features of waxing the bikini area

There are several types of bikini area depilation, and waxing takes pride of place among them, as it is a practical and affordable method. It has the following features:

  • can be done at home. All necessary materials are sold in any cosmetic and even just chain stores;
  • ideal for the bikini area, including deep ones. Daily use of a razor damages delicate skin, and a depilator can literally chew it, so it is not recommended for use for a deep bikini. The wax method in this case is optimal. The wax does not injure the skin, so if there is slight redness after the procedure, it will go away soon. Abrasions and bruises cannot appear after waxing;
  • hair will not grow for a long time, at least 2 weeks;
  • Constant use of wax will lead to hair becoming thinner, softer and sparse;
  • for those who have already developed the skill of depilation, the procedure takes no more than 15–20 minutes;
  • At first, waxing will seem very painful, but over time the discomfort will begin to disappear;
  • To carry out the procedure, it is necessary that the length of the hairs be at least 5 mm.

Everything you need for waxing can be bought in a specialized store.

Waxing is considered one of the most ancient types of hair removal. Historians say that the Egyptian queen Cleopatra resorted to this method of hair removal.

Anesthesia

The procedure in the intimate areas is painful, although with the correct technique and adequate preparation, many girls tolerate it well. But if the client has a high sensitivity threshold or is afraid, anesthesia is used, local or with the following painkillers:

Pain relief before the procedure

  • Ibuprofen;
  • Diclofenac;
  • Analgin;
  • Nurofen;
  • Ketanov.

They are taken 30 minutes before the procedure. Local anesthetics include pain-relieving creams, gels and sprays:

  • Emla;
  • Dr. Numb;
  • Light Dep;
  • Depilflax;
  • Anestop;
  • Lidocaine;
  • VEET.

A cheap but effective solution, Menovazine, helps a lot. Local anesthetics have almost no side effects. The products are applied to the bikini area according to the instructions.

If necessary, injections are made with a 2% lidocaine solution. Using an insulin needle, the cosmetologist in a checkerboard pattern (radius of action of Lidocaine is 3 cm) injects the medicine to a depth of 1.5 mm into the bikini area, without affecting the labia.

Preparation

In order for wax depilation not to bring disappointments caused by lack of results, ingrown hairs or skin irritation, you need to properly prepare for it. There are a few simple rules:

  • you need to wait until the hairs reach a length of 5–8 mm. If they are too short, then during the procedure they will not adhere to the wax, and depilation will not bring results. For this reason, using wax too often is simply useless. If the hair, on the contrary, is too long, more than 10–12 mm, then it is recommended to trim the ends slightly;
  • 2–3 days before depilation, it is recommended to start treating the skin with a scrub;
  • Be sure to take a shower immediately before depilation. The bikini area should be clean to avoid infection. Shower gels are not used during hygiene procedures. Instead, it is better to use regular soap. It dries the skin, which improves the adhesion of wax to it;
  • Do not use creams, lotions or other skin products before the procedure. This even applies to some antiseptics, if they contain auxiliary ingredients that create a film on the skin, which can subsequently prevent the wax from “grabbing” the hairs.

The principle of operation of wax and sugaring paste is the same, but the technology for applying the material is significantly different.

Depending on the phase of the cycle, waxing can be tolerable or, conversely, very painful. It is not recommended to do it during menstruation, since the pain threshold during this period is as low as possible. As ovulation approaches, that is, towards the middle of the cycle, sensitivity decreases.

Care

On the first day after depilation of a deep and classic bikini, you should not rub your groin with wax - this can further injure the skin and cause infection. Cosmetics for maintaining intimate hygiene remain prohibited - you can only wash yourself with clean boiled water, and, if possible, wear underwear made from natural materials with a classic cut.

If irritation appears the next day after the procedure, it is important to treat the groin with any healing agents:

  • Bepanthen;
  • Panthenol;
  • Zinc ointment;
  • aloe juice

Rubbing the skin with a decoction of chamomile, calendula or string will help cope with redness and incipient inflammation.

To prevent negative consequences, it is not advisable to take a bath, go to a bathhouse or sauna, or have sex for 3 days after waxing.

To prevent hair from growing under the skin, massage the bikini area once a week with a special scrub or washcloth.

Procedure technology

If the skin is already prepared for depilation, then, having gathered your courage, you can begin to act, guided by the following algorithm.

  1. Preparing the wax. You need to melt it according to the instructions. The exact melting point must be indicated on the packaging. Usually the manufacturer describes in detail the process of preparing the material, including using a microwave oven. But it’s still better to use a wax melter. Firstly, it is very convenient, and secondly, the device will prevent the wax from overheating, which can lead to burns. When everything is ready, you can check the comfortable temperature of the molten wax by applying one drop to the skin of the forearm. If the material hardens during depilation, it can be melted again. This will not affect its quality in any way.
  2. Treating the skin with a disinfectant. It is best to use ordinary alcohol. If this is not possible, then you can use a special lotion to prepare for depilation.
  3. Elimination of excess moisture. Before applying wax, it is recommended to sprinkle the skin with talcum powder (baby powder) so that it absorbs remaining moisture and sebum. Remaining product must be thoroughly wiped off.
  4. Applying wax to the skin. This is done using a special wooden spatula, which is included in the depilation kit. It can also be purchased separately. Wax is applied in the direction of hair growth in several passes. There is no need to immediately cover the entire bikini area with it. The shape of the wax applied to the skin should correspond to a strip or elongated petal.
  5. Depilation. Approximately 10 seconds after application, the wax must be pulled off the skin with a sharp movement, after lifting its edge with the same wooden spatula. At this point, it is better to hold the skin around the depilation site, since in some areas of the bikini area it is quite inelastic.
  6. Treating the skin with a disinfectant.

Criterias of choice

It is necessary to choose a depilator with the utmost care, since the result of the procedure depends on it. Important factors when choosing are skin texture and vegetation structure. For example, on large areas (legs, arms), it is most convenient to use the product in a cassette or cartridge. A film composition is more suitable for the bikini area. Cold wax will help remove small hairs on the face. This classification will help you choose the right composition.

Hot

Hot wax

As a rule, it is packaged in jars. Looks like a solid that needs to be melted before use. Since hot wax is heated to a high temperature, it is better to have a professional perform the depilation. Apply it with a spatula and then tear it off using a paper or textile strip.

Warm

Warm wax

Most often, it comes in cartridge form. The difference from a hot depilator is that the heating is carried out to a low temperature. Warm wax is optimal for self-removal of hair on the arms, legs or armpits. For the bikini area, this option is ineffective, since warm wax removes coarse hairs worse. Special strips are also used to remove residual mixture from the skin.

Another type of warm depilator is film depilatory, which is available in granular form. It melts quickly, hardens well and can be removed even without auxiliary equipment. This option is effective for the bikini area, since the film quickly takes the shape of the treated area.

Cold

Cold wax

This option is the simplest. Wax is produced in ready-made applicators with a mixture applied to them. To warm it up, just rub the strips with your palms. Ideal for small, fine hairs (e.g. on the face, above the upper lip). The disadvantage is low efficiency. Sometimes you have to repeat the procedure several times, which can cause irritation of the dermis.

Can it be done by pregnant women?

Pregnancy is not a contraindication to waxing, but some women are still afraid to do it while pregnant. There are several reasons for this. First of all, women are interested in the likelihood of infections, because the body of a pregnant woman is especially susceptible to them. In fact, these fears have no basis, since the rules of wax depilation provide for mandatory preliminary preparation of the skin: hygiene procedures and antiseptic treatment. After this, the possibility of infection can be excluded.

The second common myth: bikini waxing can cause uterine tone and even miscarriage or premature birth. This position is argued by the fact that during the procedure the woman experiences severe pain, which is also aggravated by pregnancy, and these impulses inevitably transfer to the area of the female organs, provoking their contraction. And indeed, if pregnancy is at risk, then not only depilation, but in general all factors that cause the slightest tension are prohibited. If everything goes well and the woman is healthy, then there is no reason to refuse the procedure.

Waxing of the deep bikini area during pregnancy can only be performed if there are no contraindications.

Many pregnant women are interested in whether waxing the deep bikini area will provoke the appearance of hemorrhoids, because pregnancy is a risk factor for this disease. Here, again, it all depends on predisposition. Depilation itself cannot cause the disease. If your health is good and nothing worries you, then your fears are unfounded. But if there are already alarming signals, and the disease has begun to develop, then it means that the area where it is localized should be protected from all irritating factors, including depilation.

Thus, when deciding whether to remove hair in the bikini area with wax, you need to proceed from your state of health. If there are any doubts, it is better to consult a gynecologist who is managing the pregnancy.

Contraindications

Waxing is performed only if there are no contraindications to it. The prohibition on manipulation is determined by the patient’s health status. Thus, hair removal using this method is prohibited if:

  • pregnancy (due to the risk of painful shock);
  • the presence of herpes, open wounds or moles in the problem area;
  • varicose veins;
  • inflammatory processes;
  • diseases of a viral nature accompanied by elevated body temperature;
  • diabetes mellitus

hot wax

Possible negative consequences

Despite the fact that the waxing procedure is quite harmless, the occurrence of unpleasant consequences after it cannot be completely ruled out. However, with few exceptions, they are all temporary:

  • burns from hot wax. Occurs when the material overheats. To avoid this, it is recommended not to heat the wax above 50 °C. Most often, a burn appears as redness or slight swelling and goes away on its own after some time. During the healing period of the skin, it is important not to injure it, excluding the use of washcloths, scrubs and other aggressive factors. If the burn is more serious, blisters and crusts appear on the skin, then it is better to consult a doctor;
  • skin irritation. Individual reaction to mechanical stress, especially if the skin is sensitive. There is nothing wrong with this, everything will pass soon;
  • ingrown hair. There are two provoking factors: non-compliance with the technology of the procedure and the individual characteristics of the skin and hair. It is very important to apply wax in the direction of hair growth, and remove it in the opposite direction, pulling the strip not upward, but parallel to the skin. But even if the technology is followed, the possibility of ingrowth cannot be completely excluded if the hairs have such a predisposition;
  • tubercles, pustules and pimples. They can be caused either by ingrown hairs and the subsequent inflammatory process, or by simple failure to comply with hygiene requirements. If such a problem arises, anti-inflammatory agents that dry out the skin, for example, alcohol or Zinerit lotion, will help. You need to treat your skin with them several times a day. You should also avoid creams, body lotions and other moisturizing and nourishing cosmetics. Wash your skin only with soap. Sometimes using a scrub helps.

Unfortunately, even strict adherence to depilation technology cannot completely eliminate the possibility of ingrown hairs.

Reviews

I learned this method of hair removal from a cosmetologist friend; in fact, it was she who performed the first depilation of my legs and armpits in my life. For the first year, I consistently turned to her until I realized that I could do these procedures myself. I bought a wax melter and wax for removing armpit and bikini hair and a cartridge wax melter for my legs. You can definitely depilate your legs and armpits yourself, it turns out very convenient and profitable.

Once I decided to pluck my own bikini area with wax, it was a nightmare! It’s inconvenient, it hurts, you feel sorry for yourself and therefore you can’t quickly and sharply pull the wax... The pain, of course, is terrible, but you can withstand it, because the result is worth it! But my bikini didn’t “grow together”... The next day a terrible inflammation appeared, pustules, terrible, terrible! I applied various antiseptics and sprinkled with powder, and no matter what I did, the irritation subsided only after 5 days! I didn’t really have time to enjoy the smoothness of my skin, because... a week later new hairs began to grow... And then it all started again! Hair started to grow in! And this despite the use of a scrub. Pustules, inflammation, and horror appeared again. Having dealt with all this, I decided that I needed to try again - you never know, maybe my skin is just not used to it, or I did something wrong after... But the second and third time nothing changed. I realized that it is categorically not recommended for me to remove the bikini area, as this could lead to something more serious than inflammation... But in general, waxing is a good thing, of course it hurts, but no razor can compare!

After waxing, pustules and ingrown hairs appeared

Using a spatula, the specialist carefully applies hot wax in small strips, the wax hardens, and the specialist pulls out this strip of hair. I feel pain when they tear, and it is more bearable than when sugar is applied. Many people claim that the pain dulls over time, in my case it may be so, but not by much, even after a year I feel all the pain when my clitoral and pubic hair is pulled. The “stumps” begin to appear a week after the procedure, after two they are already actively coming out into the wild. I have been depilating my intimate area for exactly a year, they promise that hair growth will soon change, they should grow less, and the hair structure will be finer, gradually their number should decrease to minimum. My master, who has been waxing for 8 years, showed what result she has currently achieved. Girls, there are only three hairs sticking out and this is three weeks after depilation!

A few days after depilation, hair begins to grow back

After the procedure, my entire skin usually swells and turns bright red. It is not recommended to get it wet on this day, but I, for example, never succeed! But then I try to sprinkle it with talcum powder so as not to provoke further irritation! The inflammation goes away literally the next day, then I take tweezers and pick out small errors. The result of this procedure is perfectly smooth, delicate skin. The effect lasts for 3-4 weeks if you periodically remove single hairs with tweezers. To do the next procedure, you need to wait until all the hair has grown back. Otherwise, only the grown hair will be removed, and literally in a week the rest of the hair will grow. This is a small disadvantage of this procedure. I would also like to note that even after the first procedure, the hair grows back softer and does not itch like after shaving. But after waxing, I always have a couple of ingrown hairs, which can only be removed with a needle, it doesn’t happen without this :))

How long will it last?

The effect of waxing depends on the individual characteristics of the body, the rate of hair growth and the sensitivity of the skin. Typically, after the first session, hairs begin to appear 2 weeks after the procedure. With subsequent depilations, this interval increases to 1 month.

These frames are conditional, so you should not forget that wax captures hairs well if their length exceeds 0.5 cm. It makes no sense to do it more often.
