Permanent tattoo and fillers: Two in one. Method of combining these methods
Aesthetic correction methods used by cosmetologists when working on the shape of the lips have both their pros and cons. Permanent tattooing allows you to work with shape and color in a plane, while fillers (gel-like preparations, usually based on hyaluronic acid) only work with volume, modeling and leveling it. A good master can achieve unique results by combining these two techniques. The main thing is to observe the measure. Correcting the shape of the lips using permanent tattooing gives excellent results if a woman has naturally plump lips. In other cases, temporary fillers are used to achieve the effect. The combination of these drugs with permanent tattooing allows you to radically change the shape of your lips, completely transforming your face. Artists who combine these two methods often wonder what to do first: contouring with fillers or permanent tattooing. From a technical point of view, the order of these procedures does not matter; they can be done in any sequence. But to obtain an aesthetic effect, it is first better to correct the shape of the lips using a tattoo, and then begin modeling their volume with fillers. Permanent tattooing is done for two to three years, but sometimes for a longer period. The effect of temporary fillers ranges from several months to a year, depending on the viscosity of the drug and the depth of its injection. Then the fillers dissolve. If you correct the shape of your lips based on the injected filler, after six months the result may be disastrous. The volume created by the “gel” will go away, and when the original shape of the lips returns, it may well turn out that it is asymmetrical. The master will have to make the correction again. Thus, if the patient has not done any of these procedures yet, it is better to start with permanent tattooing. It happens that to obtain the desired result, permanent tattooing is quite enough. Immediately after this procedure, the lips look swollen, and a woman, looking in the mirror, can imagine how her lips will look with the “gel” and understand whether she needs it. But there is a category of women who are simply indicated for lip correction using fillers. Take, for example, such a cosmetic flaw as too thin lips.
Stage No. 1: working with shape and color
With the help of permanent tattooing, a beautiful lip contour is outlined, clear and symmetrical. In some cases, it may go beyond the natural contour of the red border, increasing the volume of the lips, but not more than 2 mm, in order to avoid the impression of unnaturalness. If further correction of the lips is necessary using the introduction of temporary fillers, then the contour can be increased a little more. The next stage is shading. Using this technique, a cosmetologist achieves an even lip color, shading the edges with a darker color. Thus, the volume increases visually even more. To prevent lips enlarged with fillers from attracting too much attention, you do not need to choose a very bright pigment. So, with the help of permanent tattooing, we achieved a beautiful shape of the lips, gave them a richer color, and restored symmetry. However, you should not immediately proceed to the next stage - volume modeling. After tattooing, the skin should completely recover, this will take about a month. Only then can fillers be injected.
Stage No. 2: working with volume
With the help of fillers, you can achieve a variety of effects: create an appetizing swelling, enlarge the inner part of the lips, fill “gaps” in the corners, making the facial expression softer. The use of fillers is especially successful when one lip falls inward. They also allow you to lift the drooping corners of your mouth. Filling the nasolabial folds with these products changes the shape of the mouth: its outer edges rise slightly, the lips stretch a little, and the facial expression changes. The introduction of fillers into the upper lip allows you to smooth out vertical wrinkles, which are often grouped in this area in women in adulthood. Using this technique, experienced professionals can even create a new, neat ridge along the red border along the edge of the upper lip, which will look natural. The introduction of temporary fillers gives amazing results. However, it is very important not to get carried away and stop in time so as not to provoke overcorrection, when the lips almost turn outward. As a rule, after applying fillers, the pigment on the lips becomes a little lighter and does not look so dense. This is quite natural, because by increasing the volume of the lips, we stretch the skin a little. If this confuses a woman, then after introducing the “gel” you can again resort to permanent tattooing by re-shading.

Lip contouring: volume, combination with tattooing
This article is not about me, but about one of my readers - a brave girl who shared her experience of lip contouring.
After finding an article on my blog about lip augmentation, she decided to undergo this procedure at the same clinic. I want to talk about her because her case is not similar to mine, she has a bright tattoo, and even fillers are absorbed differently. The peculiarity of her case : Firstly, she has a rather bright tattoo on her lips, with which they clearly tried to “enlarge” her lips. It is made pink, a very far from natural color. In addition, the tattoo is applied to the natural contour of the lips, which, by the way, is clearly defined.
Secondly, the lips themselves perceive the filler completely differently than mine. As I wrote earlier, everyone’s perception and duration of filler is different, it depends on the individual characteristics of the person. And if for me, just a little filler (just 1 syringe) is enough to forget about lip injections for a whole year, then others sometimes have to inject 2 or more syringes, because there is initially little hyaluronic acid in the skin. In this case, the filler is distributed in the lips, replenishing what is missing, nourishes and moisturizes them, but does not provide volume in small quantities.
As you can see in the photo, the sponges are quite narrow (like mine), however, to give them volume, I had to inject 2 syringes (2 ml) of filler.
What filler should I use? As usual, filler of minimal or medium viscosity is used for lips. In this case, a German filler based on hyaluronic acid Hyalax Light was used.

What to do with a tattoo? Apart from laser removal - unfortunately, nothing. However, with the help of contouring, you can correct your lips so that the natural contour is not so sharp, and the difference between your own and the “drawn” contour becomes less noticeable. You should also be extremely careful about maintaining symmetry, because the tattoo cannot be redrawn in any way, and you will have to take it into account when injecting.
The correction process in this case consisted of two stages:
- Primary correction – the patient was injected with 1 syringe of filler to “saturate” the lips with hyaluronic acid, moisturize them and prepare them for further manipulations.
In this case, there was almost no volume as such, since the procedure is aimed at improving the quality of the skin.
This is necessary so that the result of the next stage is more predictable, that is, the doctor must be sure that the drug will be correctly distributed in the tissues and will not “fall” into the skin partially or completely.
- The secondary correction is done 2 weeks after the primary, when the result of the first has already fully manifested itself - the swelling has gone away, the filler has been distributed and absorbed, the lips are moisturized and ready for the contouring itself.
At this stage, the formation of volume and contour itself takes place. The goal is to make the lips more voluminous, but at the same time natural, to correct asymmetry, plus they should be more in harmony with the tattoo.
The result of lip correction in this case is more than noticeable. The photo on the left shows lips before and after correction, completely healed and even painted. Of course, there is no escape from tattooing, but it was quite possible to reduce the contrast between it and the natural contour of the lips.
Many thanks to my reader Maria, who decided not only to undergo lip contouring, but also to share useful information!
Will tattooing help?
The applied tattoo allows you to visually enlarge the lips, correct the skin, and define a contour line.
It takes place in several stages:
- The master selects a suitable shade and draws a sketch of increasing curves.
- An anesthetic is administered, the process is painful and anesthesia is required.
- If there is a desire to change the natural shade, the specialist applies the selected background, filling the entire surface. The client can choose a shade, but it is better to trust a specialist. The shape and color will depend on your wishes and the anatomical structure of your mouth.
- The master selects a dark tone for the contour lines. A light color is applied to the center of the lower lip.
- At the end of the volume increase, the contour is indicated with a light pencil, which visually makes the lips larger. Afterwards, apply the product to the skin for 2-3 minutes, then remove it with a napkin.
You can enlarge your lips with tattooing, but it will take time and patience.
What could be the reasons for correction after tattooing?
There are two main reasons for lip correction after tattooing:
— The color of the tattoo turned out to be the wrong shade as planned. It may turn out that the chosen shade is too bright, or, conversely, not effective enough. In this case, the brightness of the tattoo shade is adjusted with a pigment of a lighter or darker tone. — As a result of healing, the pigment did not appear evenly. To even out the tone, it will be enough to correct areas with a lighter shade.
Of course, we cannot exclude the possibility that we have to correct the work of an unscrupulous master and correct the shape of the lips. Sometimes it is enough to correct uneven contours with the help of a pigment that matches the color of the skin. But in rare cases, it may be necessary to remove the tattoo using a laser, and then reapply the pigment. The main thing is not to get upset and remember that any shortcomings can be corrected, it will just take more time.
Permanent lip makeup - an alternative to fillers?
If you browse social networks, even occasionally, then you have probably noticed that lip augmentation has long ceased to be carefully hidden. There are more than 1.6 million posts on Instagram with the hashtags “lip augmentation” using injection methods. This includes Botox, fillers, silicone, and so on. But at the same time, a new trend is currently gaining popularity - permanent lip makeup, which can slightly move Botox from its pedestal.
Of course, permanent is not a new word in cosmetology. It has been around for many decades. But gone are the days when tattooing is necessarily something bright, with a clear outline and immediately noticeable. Progress has significantly expanded the capabilities of the micropigmentation master. And now he can do almost “everything” - make lips brighter, fuller, adjust their shape or outline, placing accents.
What is lip permanent?
Permanent lip tattooing (tattooing, micropigmentation) is a temporary cosmetic tattoo. A tiny mechanized needle delivers pigment under the skin, into its different layers.
The tattoo is performed not by a classic tattooist, as it was before, but by a permanent master. In micropigmentation, organic pigments are most often used. And the instruments are digital, having several needle configurations.
Types of lip tattoo
Contour permanent
Everything is simple here. The pigment is transferred under the skin only along the contour - just like if you lined your lips with a cosmetic pencil. The colors are selected individually - you can make clearly defined lines, or you can make them slightly shaded, just a little darker than the skin tone.
Full filling
Tinting occurs throughout the lip area, allowing you to make them brighter, fuller, and give shape. Again, colors may vary. The "light" full-fill version is sometimes called a lip blush. But dark, rich tones are also suitable for such a permanent. The choice is yours.
Contourless permanent
One of the most natural types of lip tattooing is the non-contour method. The pigment is applied and smoothly shaded closer to the lip contour without outlining lines.
Light kajal
Blonde kyle is often called a “3d permanent.” The technique involves lightening the skin around the lip contour, thereby visually adding volume and fullness. If you are completely satisfied with the color and shape of your lips, but would like to add only plumpness and expressiveness, then you can limit yourself to just a light “outline”. But it is also possible to carry out the procedure in full: with pigmentation of the contour and shading inside.
And, of course, there are many subtypes of tattooing. Depending on the color - lipstick effect (bright, catchy color), watercolor technique (natural shades), mother-of-pearl (paint with shiny splashes). You can also, for example, do incomplete filling, highlighting only the corners of the lips. Or light kajal only for the upper or lower lip.
How is the lip tattoo procedure performed?
- The process of applying a preliminary drawing. At this stage, you will be able to see how your lips will look after the tattoo and healing process.
- Anesthesia. Pain relief methods vary from salon to salon. If you are allergic to any analgesic, be sure to inform the specialist in advance.
- Tattoo. Takes from one to two hours.
About pain
Permanent is not a classic tattoo. The impact is only superficial. And the use of analgesics suggests that the procedure is rather unpleasant than painful.
But tattooing is different from tattooing. The skin of the lips is more porous, so it relieves pain more effectively than, for example, the eyebrow area during microblading.
Skin healing after permanent
Immediately after micropigmentation, the lips may swell slightly - this is normal, because it is still a tattoo, albeit a lighter version. But the hardest part begins in the next week after the permanent. “Crusts” begin to form on the lips, which under no circumstances should be removed.
Lip care after permanent treatment:
- Avoid physical activity
- Reduce your time in the sun (do not sunbathe)
- Don't sleep on your face
- Applying a moisturizing ointment (for example, Aquaphor)
What else needs to be taken into account when permanent lip treatment?
- Immediately after tattooing, the color of your lips will be unnaturally bright. And that's okay. After healing, 30-50% of the pigment will “dissolve”, and the result will be almost the same as what was drawn for you at the first stage of the permanent procedure. Why almost? Because a lot depends on the healing process and your body. It is possible that some areas of the lips will reject the pigment. Or the color will not be completely uniform. Then repeated color correction is indicated. But not earlier than in a month.
- A few weeks before tattooing, avoid taking ibuprofen and other drugs based on it, fish oil and vitamin E. It is believed that avoiding these drugs can significantly reduce the likelihood of bruising and bleeding. It is also worth abstaining from alcohol, spicy foods and coffee for the same reason a couple of days before going to the salon.
- Permanent and herpes. If you are familiar with these diseases first-hand, then you probably guess that any stress (and especially permanent stress) can trigger an outbreak of herpes. And the formation of bubbles will complicate the healing process - don’t go to a fortune teller. What to do? About a month in advance, you need to take a prophylactic course of antiherpetic drugs (Acyclovir, Valtrex, Famvir, Allostatin and their analogues). Your therapist will tell you which medicine is right for you and in what dosage.
- Before you come for the permanent procedure, decide what result you want to see in the end. Experiment with different shades of lipstick or lip tint at home. Don’t be afraid to try radically different colors, what if an unusual shade best emphasizes the beauty of your lips?
How long does lip permanent last?
From one to three years. Of course, over time the color fades and disappears. And this is a very individual process, which depends on skin care (especially in winter) and the characteristics of the body.
Lip tattoo correction
Permanent
makeup
is a procedure with which you can make your lips more voluminous, brighter, and smoother.
This makeup lasts for several years, but to achieve an ideal result, periodic lip tattoo correction
.
Each girl’s body is individual and it is impossible to say with certainty how
long it will take to make a correction, there are only averages and time frames. In each specific case you need to look at the result. In older women, the pigment lasts a little longer, while in young girls it is removed faster. The durability of the pigment also depends on the functioning of the immune system, proper care after the procedure and the quality of the dye.
When correction may be needed
It’s worth visiting a specialist if:
- you are not satisfied with the resulting lip tone;
- the contour swam due to swelling of the lips during the procedure;
- the pigment lays unevenly due to peeling off the crusts during healing;
- the previous master was not highly qualified and made some mistakes.
In the latter case, you should not go to the same specialist for correction. It is better to find a salon where professionals work.
How long does it take to correct?
There are three types of correction, which depend on the timing:
- Primary correction is a mandatory step on the path to a good result. It is carried out immediately after the tattoo has completely healed (after 1 - 3 months). The master eliminates small errors - the contour is aligned, asymmetry is removed, color is added.
- Renewing correction is carried out when the primary tattoo has almost disappeared, that is, after about five years. This type of correction is not required if a woman no longer wants to wear permanent makeup on her lips.
- Cover (overlap) - this correction is more like a primary tattoo, since during the process the artist completely changes the contour and/or color of the lips. This type is optional and is carried out at the request of the client.
Lip care after correction is the same as after the first tattoo procedure.

How to enlarge lips without surgery
Lips are considered one of the most attractive parts of a woman's face. They symbolize the sensuality and sexuality of their owner. The fuller the lips, the more feminine and beautiful they are. However, not many representatives of the fair sex are given such lips by nature. Those with thin lips are forced to resort to various cosmetic tricks to visually make them fuller.
Of course, there are radical methods of “fighting” thin lips that will forever change their shape. This is all kinds of plastic. But is it worth agreeing to surgery to achieve the desired result?
Modern cosmetology and aesthetic medicine do not stand still and offer more gentle ways to enlarge lips and give them a beautiful shape. The oldest and most proven method is permanent makeup.
Lip tattoo or permanent makeup
This procedure is done, first of all, to give the lips an attractive shape. Due to the clear contour, there is a visual increase. The essence of tattooing is that a persistent pigment is injected into the skin, which contains alcohols necessary to fix the coloring matter.
Types of tattoo:
- permanent lipstick that allows you to give your lips a rich shade and increase their volume. It is possible to use several shades to achieve the most natural, but at the same time sexy look;
- contour tattoo, which is ideal for women with the correct lip shape. It uses natural pigment that makes the lip contour more expressive;
- contouring with shading. This is an option that combines the two previous techniques. Pigment is applied to the lip contour and shaded over the entire surface. This technique uses bright colors that can replace lipstick or gloss;
- lightening, which involves applying pigment under the contour of the lower and above the contour of the upper lip.
The technique of one or another type of permanent makeup visually increases volume and adds sensuality to the lips.
Hyaluronic acid
This is a natural substance that is found in any body, so this method of lip augmentation is absolutely harmless. Hyaluronic acid is usually used when you need to plump up your lips. The amount of the drug is quite small, but the effect is noticeable immediately.
Technique for performing lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid:
- pain relief with 1-2 injections or treatment of lips with a special cream that reduces sensitivity;
- introduction of hyaluronic acid. Injections are performed in small portions in those places where adjustment is necessary;
- lip massage, necessary to prevent swelling and distribute the drug evenly.
In most cases, the desired effect is achieved immediately after the procedure. In rare cases, additional correction is necessary, which is performed after 14 days.
Botox for lip augmentation
This is a very popular drug in cosmetology, which is a botulinum toxin. Botox for lip augmentation has been practiced for over 30 years. The drug is administered to slightly lift the corners of the lips and smooth out wrinkles, giving the lips elasticity and attractiveness.
Technique:
- designation of injection points;
- pain relief for lips using a special anesthetic gel;
- injection of Botox.
The drug is administered with thin insulin needles in microdoses. The procedure lasts no more than 40 minutes. Once in the skin, Botox smoothes out fine wrinkles and gives the lips the desired plumpness. The results of the procedure can be seen on the 3rd day. The effect will last for 12 months.
In general, it must be said that today there are many methods of non-surgical lip augmentation. Which method you prefer is up to you. The main condition that must be fulfilled is to choose a good master, because not only your beauty, but also your health depends on his professionalism!
Which is better: lip tattoo or lip augmentation?
The opportunity to look bright and well-groomed at any time of the day, regardless of what you are doing and how you feel, is attracting increased attention from more and more women to permanent makeup (micropigmentation). The successful results of this procedure have many advantages - natural beauty is emphasized thanks to lines that correct the shape of the lips, eyebrows, eyes and even nipples. And these lines are preserved when visiting the pool, sauna and on a long-awaited seaside vacation. In the morning, a woman frees up time previously spent on daily makeup, and her facial skin does not suffer from constant exposure to cosmetics, many of which can cause allergies. In addition to aesthetic ones, there are also medical indications for permanent makeup - these are congenital and acquired defects of the skin of the face and body (“cleft lip”, loss of eyebrows and eyelashes, facial injuries, consequences of reconstructive plastic surgery. Very often, surgeons recommend micropigmentation after plastic resection of the mammary gland for restoration of the shape and color of the areola). The permanent makeup procedure itself consists of injecting a special dye into the upper layers of the skin along a pre-drawn contour using a needle. The inks used for tattooing are mineral or organic based and do not cause allergic reactions. Unlike a regular tattoo, the coloring pigment is not injected so deeply, without damaging the blood vessels and nerve endings. The tattoo procedure lasts approximately 30 minutes -1 hour and does not cause any discomfort, since before this an anesthetic gel is applied to the treated areas. The procedure is performed under conditions of absolute sterility, using disposable needles and other disposable consumables.
After the permanent makeup procedure, during the first day it is recommended to rinse the tattoo area with purified cool water to avoid the formation of a thick crust. As a last resort, if dryness occurs, you can use hygienic lipstick. You should start using products that accelerate skin regeneration from the second day. During the healing process, direct exposure to ultraviolet rays and any steaming procedures (bath, sauna, cosmetic procedures) is excluded. You cannot remove the crust yourself. Final healing occurs after 3-4 weeks. (the pigment is fully revealed) In permanent makeup, a large number of pigment colors are used, which can also be mixed, so there are practically no restrictions in the choice of color. After applying permanent makeup, the pigment colors all layers of the dermis much brighter than the final result. During the healing process, the color of the pigment darkens due to the formed protective capsule. After healing is complete, permanent makeup becomes lighter and more matte. Taking into account the color and density of your skin, the specialist selects the desired pigment color to achieve the desired result.
When choosing the main lines of makeup, experts advise limiting yourself to the minimum that will be appropriate for any occasion, and to which, if desired, you can always add something for holiday makeup:
After eyebrow correction using permanent makeup, they look natural. During the procedure, small thin strokes are applied within the intended contour. In this case, specially developed eyebrow pigments are used, based on natural hair colors. Permanent makeup is done in the upper layers of the skin and does not damage the hair follicles. On the upper eyelid, you can make a neat arrow or create a natural effect of thick eyelashes by slightly shading the line drawn at the base of the eyelashes. The procedure allows you to correct the shape of the eyes and significantly reduce the amount of cosmetics used, thereby slowing down the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes, which can be caused by the daily use of decorative products. With the help of permanent makeup, you can achieve optical enlargement of your lips, emphasize their shape, and fill them with color. The procedure also helps women who lose their natural lip contour with age or frequent herpes. Permanent makeup also allows you to make new moles, tint your own, shade scars, and paint on pigment spots with flesh color. Permanent makeup is a very delicate and painstaking work. The most difficult and important thing in the permanent makeup procedure is the correct application technique. This concept includes: the required depth of pigment application, the ideal character of the lines and the uniformity of coloring. The main thing, of course, is the depth of the puncture, which is controlled only by the master’s hand. If the injection is not deep enough, the pigment is not properly fixed in the skin, and after the crust falls off and the epidermis is completely restored, either there is no paint left at all, or its color will be very light, and the resulting effect is unstable. In this case, a repeat procedure will correct the situation. But there are much more problems if the skin is damaged too deeply. Regardless of the color of the pigment itself, if the needle penetrates too deeply, there is a high risk of obtaining an undesirable shade (even dark blue and black-blue), which will last much longer than the color of the pigment itself. At the same time, a scar may form at the site of permanent makeup. The causes of such complications may be poor quality of the coloring composition, the device used and insufficient skill of the cosmetologist. Therefore, it is worth taking the time to find a specialist who would take the time to train and practice the acquired skills. It’s also a good idea to look at the results of the work of those who have already been in his hands. There are no contraindications for permanent makeup. But it is not recommended to perform the procedure in case of exacerbation of skin diseases in the area of tattooing, several days before and during menstruation, as well as after taking blood-thinning drugs and alcohol. The effect of permanent makeup lasts for approximately 2-4 years. The duration depends on the structure of the skin, the rate of its renewal, and solar radiation. External influences cause colors to fade and disappear over time. In this case, a repeated permanent makeup procedure can help, which will restore your confidence in your indelible attractiveness.
