I like that Adobe is promoting new web technologies for design, and is approaching this very responsibly. CSS filters are a good example of this.
Adobe knew filters would be popular because they had already paved the way for them with Photoshop.
CSS filters were included in the web toolkit with an already meaningful syntax, and the Adobe team helped developers with the specification and implementation in browsers.
At the moment, we can see the filters working in stable versions of most browsers. Hallelujah.
Below is a quick tutorial that explains how to use CSS filters.
While filters such as “contrast”, “saturation” and “blur” existed only in graphic editors, in web technologies we saw them in ready-made images to which these filters were applied in advance.
As soon as browsers began to include the ability to work with filters, we were able to apply them to any element of a web document.
In this article, we will look at one of these filters using the frosted glass effect as an example, and consider how much more flexible and convenient it is to use CSS filters compared to using static images.

To make a manicure matte, you don’t have to use a polish with this finish - just apply a matte top coat over a regular glossy finish (this is what Essie has, for example). What is the sequence of actions?
1
Prepare everything you need. You will need colored polish (we used the new Essie Gel Couture, so we didn't use a base) and a matte topcoat.
2
Degrease the nail plate with oil-free nail polish remover. Antiseptic hand gel is suitable for the same purpose.
3
Apply two coats of color (we used Surrounded By Studs). The finish of the varnish can be anything - but a regular one paired with a matte top will look better than metallic, pearlescent or glitter.

4
Make sure you are happy with the coverage. The fact is that a matte top will highlight all imperfections, especially if the varnish is dark.

5
Apply topcoat to your nails in one coat (keep in mind that some topcoats may slightly change the color of the polish, such as making it lighter). Let it dry thoroughly - it's good if you have an hour left. Ready!

Matte French manicure
French will always be in fashion.
Probably, there has never been a season when the French jacket was not relevant. After all, this is a real classic and maximum naturalness. But in addition to the traditional glossy coating of a French jacket, you can safely use a matte top coat. This way the French jacket will be endowed with a special chic and will look completely new. Do not forget to draw a “smile” at the tip of the nail plate especially carefully and evenly, since the matte top reveals all the imperfections and makes them more visible.
Remember that in 2020, what is in fashion is not the classic French man with a wide smile, but with a very thin, sophisticated stripe at the tip of the nail. In this case, it does not matter at all how long the nail itself will be. It is also recommended to take an opaque background for the French manicure, especially if you plan to cover your nails with a matte finish. We also advise you to pay attention to the beautiful variations of colored jackets with different combinations of shades, especially pastel colors for spring and brighter and richer ones for summer.
How to make a matte manicure last?
Matte varnishes are not as durable as glossy ones. The coating will have to be changed more often, but this is an opportunity to “walk” more fashionable shades.
- Since it is not recommended to use base and top coats for matte varnish (and they are the ones that usually make the manicure more durable), make the glossy varnish matte. A matte top coat will come in handy for this.
- To make the matte finish more durable, apply the varnish in several thin layers. Let everyone dry completely.
- Matte varnishes are not “friendly” with products that contain oils. Avoid cuticle oils and lotions, and treat your nails with nail polish remover before getting a manicure.
- Since the coating begins to “come off” or chip, usually from the free edge of the nail, “seal” it well with a matte varnish.
Matte manicure with glitter and sparkle
Here's another win-win option for both the holidays and every day. It's simple: mix a matte finish with shiny glitters. You can do the same as in the case of gloss: cover several nails with matte, and cover one or two completely with glitter. You can draw designs on the matte surface with silver, gold or colored glitter. You can do the same in French. Do you want everything at once? Then combine matte and glossy finishes on one color, and add glitter to it!

Summer option - manicure with a pattern. You will need a polish of a neutral and contrasting shade - for example, Lace Me Up and On The Roadie from Essie (as in the photo). First make a monochromatic coating, and then, when the varnish is completely dry, make drawings. Do them with a brush and, if you are not confident in your abilities, practice on paper first.

This manicure option is suitable for every day. Apply any nude polish as a base, and then, if your hand is full, make a graphic design. An alternative is to use stencils or stickers.

To diversify it, you can make the main coating with matte varnish, and highlight the free edge with glossy or metallic varnish. Choose colors either from the same range or contrasting ones - if the stripe is thin, you can experiment with any shades.

Nobody forbids you to play with flowers. You can, for example, paint half of your nail with one color and the other half with a different shade. At the same time, they can either harmonize with each other (for example, light and bright pink, gray and blue) or be, at first glance, incompatible - like dark turquoise and pastel peach.

The “frosted glass” effect can appear in the lungs due to any viral infection or allergy and is temporary; there is no point in talking about any “lung damage,” an associate professor of the department of hospital therapy at the First Moscow State Medical University told the newspaper VZGLYAD. Sechenov, pulmonologist Alexander Palman.
Japanese scientists analyzed the condition of 104 infected passengers from the Diamond Princess liner. 76 people suffered from the disease asymptomatically. According to the results of computed tomography (CT), almost half of them showed changes in the lungs - the so-called “ground glass” symptom.
“Ground glass is a purely x-ray term, and like any instrumental examination, it is not a diagnosis, but, relatively speaking, a picture. In the picture it vaguely resembles lungs in fog. A clouded area of the lungs is a nonspecific inflammatory sign that is correlated with the corresponding clinical picture. This can be in a viral situation, or in a bacterial situation, or in an autoimmune aggression, or in an allergic reaction,” says Palman.
On a regular X-ray, the “ground glass” effect is almost invisible, says the pulmonologist, but on a CT scan, where you can see the smallest structures of the lungs, such clouded areas are already visible. But due to the fact that CT produces fairly clear images, doctors see something that cannot always be clearly explained.
“In fact, if we start doing CT scans for traditional viral infections, especially influenza, we will also find some similar changes in the lungs in a very large percentage of patients. Moreover, even for those who are not sick. I am not sure that the changes in these coronavirus patients who were on the cruise ship are 100% related to this infection. In this case, we can simply talk about probability,” says Palman.
The doctor explains that even if an ordinary person now does a computed tomography scan of the lungs, and in the conclusion they write to him that “small areas with ground glass changes are observed,” then this is not a reason to start worrying. If, during such an examination, “large widespread areas like ground glass” are revealed, then this is also not a reason to panic, but a sign that as soon as the situation with coronavirus subsides, you should contact a competent pulmonologist and try to figure out what is happening to the lungs.
He also notes that the “frosted glass” effect itself is a temporary phenomenon and goes away after the cause of the lung disease is eliminated.
Types of matte top
There are two types of matte top: with a satin effect and with a corduroy effect . The first creates a light matte finish on the nails, which to the touch is hardly distinguishable from gloss and may begin to shine over time. The matte corduroy top not only looks like velvet, but also feels very similar to this fabric. The downside is that it can get a little dirty.
It is recommended to use a matte top on dark gel polish colors, since on light colors the velvet effect is barely perceptible. The matte finish also looks interesting on gel polishes with cat eye effects, glitter or shimmer. It muffles their shine, making it more restrained, but at the same time unique.
Review of matte tops
A matte top is not as popular as a glossy one, so I only had two of them: Nogtika (satin) and Patrisa Nail (corduroy). As the collection grows, I will update this post. For now about them.
Matte top Patrisa Nail Velveteen
Bottle volume – 8 ml
Polymerization time in a UV lamp is 1.5 minutes, in an LED lamp – 30 seconds
The top coat is very thick: even if you take out the brush without wiping it on the edges of the bottle, not a drop will fall off! The finish itself is translucent and virtually odorless. Due to its thickness, it is a little inconvenient to apply; you need to adapt to do it carefully. When applied, the brush leaves grooves, but self-levels quickly enough. It’s simply impossible to flow somewhere with such density!
The brush is wide, for such a consistency I would make it a little narrower.
It does not roll off from the edges of the nail plate. The coating is incredibly velvety to the touch and super matte in appearance, which does not “wear out” over time. The wearing period of the top is up to 3 weeks.
There is no stickiness in it, but I noticed that if you apply a degreaser after drying, the effect will be visible much better.

Matte moon manicure
Almost the same as with French: lunar manicure will be relevant almost always and everywhere.
It will suit any image and any situation. It is only important to choose the right background color for a lunar manicure. As a rule, it is bright and saturated, because nude will simply be “invisible” if the hole is not painted over. Red and black moon manicure is considered a classic. This year, muted blue, dark green, warm orange, turquoise, burgundy and pink are also in fashion. It is recommended to apply all these shades to the nail plate, leaving the base of the nail, the hole, unpainted. And, of course, cover it with a matte top - then the deep color of the background will sparkle in a new way. You can also paint your nail one color and cover it with a matte topcoat, and paint the hole itself with a different color, or several. A great option for a holiday or a weekend, or just to lift your spirits: make the hole with sparkles and glitter, or foil elements - it will turn out even more beautiful and festive.
