Comprehensive facial skin care at home is a necessary measure to maintain normal condition and beauty. Without regular cleansing, nutrition and hydration, the signs of aging develop more intensely, complexion deteriorates, and elasticity is lost. To prevent such troubles, you should perform simple and not time-consuming daily procedures - they will help restore youth, a healthy and blooming appearance.
Washing is a basic step in comprehensive facial skin care at home.
Daily washing is required to remove residues of care products or cosmetics, street dirt and dust, and sebum from the surface of the skin. The procedure is performed morning and evening, regardless of skin type, by selecting the appropriate product. It is not recommended to use regular soap for washing - it contains alkalis that adversely affect the delicate skin of the face. You should choose special soft products that do not contain this ingredient. For normal and combination skin, you can use cleansing gels; For dry and sensitive skin, products with calendula and chamomile are suitable.
Facial care at 40–50 years old
They say that the modern 40 is the new 20. And this is true. Medicine, cosmetology, and a healthy lifestyle allow many women to look as attractive at this age as they did between 20 and 30. To help the skin maintain youth and freshness longer, it is important to follow the following recommendations.
Intensely hydrate your skin
We have already mentioned that over the years the skin becomes less oily. As the protective sebum barrier thins, it becomes more difficult for the skin to retain moisture. And where there is not enough moisture, drought sets in with its characteristic cracks, wrinkles, creases... Skin hydration should be a priority in your care.
Avoid washing with soap and other drying agents. Switch to nourishing foams with a creamy texture or micellar water that does not require rinsing. When choosing day and night creams, also focus on maximum hydration.
Include salon treatments in your care
Even if you used to get by just fine on your own. With age, the skin requires more and more attention and care: the volume of the lips decreases, nasolabial folds appear, and the oval of the face slightly floats.
Modern cosmetology offers a wide range of anti-aging procedures and works real miracles. Properly selected peelings, massage techniques, as well as all kinds of beauty injections that will moisturize the deep layers of the skin, fill wrinkles and restore volume to the lips, allow even at 49 to look as amazing as at 25.
Consult a cosmetologist about professional care. It is important that your specialist has a medical education and undergoes appropriate training. In this case, the therapy will be as safe and effective as possible.
Pay maximum attention to the skin under your eyes
With age, thin skin in these areas requires more and more nutrition and more dense creams and serums, rich in antioxidants and vitamins. It is advisable to select them together with a cosmetologist who will give recommendations, focusing on the characteristics and condition of your specific skin.
Please note: you cannot forget about care! Even if it seems that you are lucky and facial wrinkles and dark circles are safely bypassing you. Time is inexorable, and if you don’t help the skin under your eyes to recover, unpleasant changes can one day overtake you in just a few days.
Mechanical peeling
comprehensive facial skin care at home
To deeply cleanse facial skin at home, use scrubs several times a week.
They are needed to remove dead particles of the epidermis from the surface, improve local blood circulation and restore an even color to the face. Also, using scrubs helps get rid of blackheads. Normal, mixed and oily skin needs a deep cleansing procedure 1-2 times a week; dry - no more than 3 times a month. In summer, the number of applications can be slightly increased. It is advisable to use scrubs in the evening, since the abrasive components of the product can disrupt the integrity of the skin; In addition, it is undesirable to go outside for several hours after using it.
How to properly cleanse your face?
The question of proper skin cleansing is actually subjective.
Its different types and features make every woman search for her own special ideal care for a long time. However, there are still some patterns that work for everyone. Let's deal with them. Competent cosmetologists say that proper cleansing of facial skin at home consists of three stages:
- Removing decorative cosmetics
. If you wear makeup, you should start cleansing by removing decorative cosmetics. You will need an eye makeup remover, as well as milk, which will remove most of your foundation and bright lipstick. - Cleansing gel or foam
. At the second stage of skin cleansing, you need to use foam or gel for washing. If you haven't been wearing makeup, then this cleansing step will be the first. The task of gel and foam, in addition to cleansing from cosmetic residues, is also to remove pathogenic flora and skin secretions. Essentially, these two products are approximately the same in composition, but their texture is different. Foam allows deeper penetration, which means it removes dirt more thoroughly. In addition, this product is more economical in consumption. On the other hand, gel is better than foam for irritated and oily skin. That is, we cannot say unequivocally that foam is a more preferable option in all respects; it all depends on the type and condition of the skin. But, one way or another, you need to use one or another tool. - Skin toning
. Many people neglect this stage of skin cleansing, which is very in vain. In addition to supplying the skin with the nourishing components included in the product, the tonic also removes traces of previous cleansing products from the skin. The last step is especially important because most gels and foams contain synthetic components that may not wash off with water. As a result, they remain on the skin and provoke various types of irritation. By using toner, you protect your face from such developments. In addition, the tonic prepares the skin for the next stage of care - applying day or night cream.
By the way, although applying cream is not considered a cleansing procedure, we will still remind you of its necessity, especially after 25 years.
Signs of skin aging are much easier and cheaper to prevent than to fight them. As you can see, everything is quite simple: just 2-3 simple procedures day and evening can preserve the beauty of your skin for a long time and prevent the development of various kinds of dermatological problems. The main thing, of course, is to take into account your skin type and condition when choosing cleansing cosmetics. After all, one person, say, can use soap to wash his face, while another can only use foam for sensitive skin.
However, when we talk about soap, we do not mean ordinary soap for hands, but special cosmetic soap. Conventional soap contains alkalis, which have a destructive effect on skin lipids, which causes dehydration and active peeling. In addition, when washing the face with aggressive soap, it loses its natural protection, which means it becomes vulnerable to bacteria and free radicals, which leads to inflammation and early aging.
Many cosmetologists advise not only using regular soap when washing your face, but also tap water. At least if you live in the city. However, you shouldn’t cleanse your skin completely without it. Today, various kinds of micellar tonics and gels are in fashion, but most experts assure that they are not able to cleanse the face as efficiently as necessary. If you are allergic to tap water, use boiled or purified water in a good filter, and in extreme cases, special water - not mineral water for drinking, but specifically for cleansing the skin.
Note! The skin needs proper cleansing at any age. If with skincare procedures - serums, creams, etc. - you can wait until you are 25-30 years old, but high-quality cleansing is required already in adolescence. By the way, it will help mitigate dermal problems typical for teenagers due to changes in hormonal levels.
Chemical peeling
Chemical peeling is a procedure in which the skin is exposed to special acids to cause a superficial burn. At the same time, the top layer is exfoliated, and the condition of the skin noticeably improves. Doing chemical peeling at home is not recommended - the slightest inaccuracy can cause serious damage. It is better to contact specialists who will help you cleanse your skin correctly and safely. It is better to exclude this procedure from comprehensive facial skin care at home or use the services of a salon.
Types of salon facial treatments
Comprehensive facial care in a salon is always an effective addition to daily home treatments. The selection of events and frequency of visits are discussed with a specialist and are determined by your wishes, skin condition and type, as well as financial capabilities. Remember that a lot depends on the master, so choose a cosmetologist carefully. Before signing up for a comprehensive facial, read reviews about the work of this specialist.
The following types of specialized care are available:
- Professional cleaning – mechanical, ultrasonic, combined.
- SPA treatments – scrub, mask, massage.
- Massage – lifting, anti-aging, etc.
- Peels – there are a great variety of them.
- Hardware cosmetology – R-lifting, elos, etc.
- Injection procedures - Botox, mesotherapy, fillers, biorevitalization, thread lifting and much more.
It has been proven that comprehensive use of the services of professional cosmetologists preserves the health and youth of the skin much better and longer than just home care. Due to this, the need for injection procedures arises much later.
Gomazh
Gommage is a gentler skin cleanser than a scrub. It contains no abrasive particles, so it can be used for any skin type, including problematic and sensitive ones. For oily and combination skin, gommage can be used twice a week, and for dry and normal skin – once, in the evenings. After 40 years, it is recommended to perform the cleansing procedure more often - 2-3 times a week, this will help reduce wrinkles and activate regeneration processes. Since gommage cleanses the skin gently, it can be used equally often at any time of the year.
Typical mistakes when cleansing facial skin
So, now you know that you need to cleanse your skin twice a day, the procedure should include two or three stages depending on whether you wore makeup or not, and it is better not to use ordinary soap and tap water, especially for sensitive and problematic dermis.
However, even knowing these seemingly comprehensive rules, you can easily make mistakes. Let's look at the most basic of them:
- Neglecting hand washing
. Many of you are probably raising your eyebrows in surprise right now, but yes, before you start cleansing your face, you must first wash your hands thoroughly, otherwise bacteria and dirt from them can very easily be transferred to your face. So be sure to make it a habit to wash your hands beforehand. - Abuse of scrubs
. A scrub is undoubtedly a powerful product that provides deep cleansing of the facial skin, but overdoing it is worse than not using too much. The fact is that excessive exposure to abrasive particles that the scrub contains can lead to irritation, thin the dermis, and this in turn will lead to a number of other additional problems, including premature aging. A reasonable number of facial scrubs is 1-3 times a week, depending on your skin type and condition. - Contrast shower for face
. We bet that many of you are sure that a contrast shower is a useful procedure. That's how it is, but this rule only works for the body. It seems logical to wash your face with hot water to open the pores and clean them better, and then rinse with cold water to close them and prevent the penetration of new dirt and other unnecessary particles. However, in fact, both hot and cold water are just irritations for delicate facial skin. Choose a warm, comfortable temperature to avoid unpleasant consequences. - Excessive zeal in cleansing
. Today, the so-called two-phase cleansing has become fashionable, when special wipes are used after foam or gel. However, in most cases this is completely unnecessary. Renowned dermatologist Sam Bunting says being "squeaky clean" can disrupt the skin's natural barrier function. However, exceptions do happen; the specialist believes that two-phase cleansing should be resorted to after, for example, intense training in the gym. - Intensive cleansing of the eye area
. This area is extremely sensitive, and therefore it should ideally be cleaned only with a special soft product and a cotton pad. In some cases, it is also possible to use a gentle foam, but then you should not rub the skin - tap the product in with light pats and rinse gently. - Using 2 in 1 products
. Unfortunately, almost all products with such a “mark” are deceptions for buyers. The washing gel cleanses, the toner tones, and the cream moisturizes and nourishes, it couldn’t be any other way. So don’t chase two birds with one stone, you know what happens to such would-be hunters. By the way, you should not delude yourself with the already mentioned above and now fashionable micellar water. Firstly, it is not able to deeply cleanse the skin. Secondly, all manufacturers of such products write that it is not necessary to wash it off. However, this is illogical. Since the product is positioned as a cleanser, it contains surfactants, due to which, in fact, cleansing occurs, and surfactants cannot be left on the face. If you really like this product, but really don’t want to come into contact with water, use at least a toner after. - Use of creamy texture cleansing gels
. There are such products on the market, and, as a rule, they are positioned as cosmetics for sensitive skin or a kind of 2 in 1 - washing gel + cream. However, the texture of the cream is not the best solution for cleansing; they are usually poorly washed off and, as a result, clog pores, cause all sorts of irritation and can even lead to dysfunction of the skin’s natural moisturizing processes. - Purchasing fashion products
. Choosing a cosmetic product is not an area where you need to follow fashion. You shouldn’t buy foam because all the top beauty bloggers advertise it; your main task when choosing a product for cleansing your face is to take into account the type and condition of your skin. It is also a good idea to read the ingredients and try to purchase products with a minimum amount of harmful substances. - Using brushes for cleansing
. Today, many cleansers are equipped with special brushes that help better perform the task of this very product. However, their effect is actually akin to a scrub, which means their excessive use is not recommended. However, it is worth saying that girls with sensitive and dry skin are not only not advised to use them, but are prohibited. - Insufficient care of brushes and sponges
. This point, although indirectly, relates to the issue of cleansing the skin. The fact is that a huge number of bacteria accumulate on makeup brushes and sponges, and if they are not washed at least once a week with antibacterial soap, then their use can negate any quality cleansing.
Well, we hope you don’t make most of these mistakes and just make sure that you’re doing everything right.
Otherwise, don’t be upset, because now you know the secrets of successful facial cleansing and you can start working on your mistakes. How to cleanse your facial skin - watch the video:
Facial cleansing is a procedure that should not be neglected. You need to wash and tone your skin twice a day, and it is very important to do it correctly, avoiding the typical mistakes of many women. Remember that healthy and youthful skin begins with proper cleansing.
Steaming
comprehensive facial skin care at home
Using a steaming facial mask helps soften the skin, gently cleanse, open pores, and remove toxins. It is recommended to use it before cleansing your skin. The procedure can be performed no more than once a week, in the evenings. Suitable additives are selected for each skin type: • dry skin is steamed with essential oils of rosemary, geranium, rose or lime, or chamomile; • normal – with lavender, rose and rosemary oils; • fatty – lemon, mint and thyme.
Tonics and cosmetic ice
comprehensive facial skin care at home
Tonics help remove remnants of cleansing cosmetics from the skin, even out the acid-base balance of the skin after washing, and serve as a base before applying nourishing creams, enhancing their effect. It is recommended to use them with every cleansing - morning and evening. During the hot season, you can increase the number of applications depending on the condition of the skin. For oily skin, choose products that contain half or more alcohol, for dry skin - no alcohol, but with the addition of vitamins and oils, for normal skin - with 10% alcohol. Problem skin is wiped with tonics that contain ANA and BHA acids. For mature skin, it is advisable to use cosmetic ice - it helps fight age-related changes, tones, increases blood circulation, tightens the oval of the face, and fights dark circles under the eyes. You can wipe your face with an ice cube at any time of the day, but you should not use it in winter.
Skin types
There are 4 skin types - oily, normal, combination and dry. Let's consider their main features.
Dry
Dry skin can look different depending on age - in youth it is beautiful, thin and delicate, has a matte tint, but after 30 or even earlier it becomes covered with wrinkles, often flakes, and after a shower it feels tight. Pores, as a rule, are not noticeable; delicate skin does not tolerate soap, ointments, and aggressive cleansers. The causes of excessive dryness are genetics, lack of water, fat in the body, pathology of the pancreas, liver, vitamin deficiency.
The main condition for proper care of such skin is constant nutrition. Cleansing should be regular but gentle.
Read about what cream to buy for dry skin in a pharmacy at the link.
Dry skin looks very beautiful in youth, but wrinkles appear on it first.
Fat
Oily epidermis is characterized by increased greasiness and poor blood supply (fat clogs the pores and thereby interferes with normal blood circulation). There are almost always acne and pimples on it; such skin looks untidy. The pores are usually wide and there are blackheads. After 30, oily skin most often becomes combination, but there are exceptions.
Advantages – low sensitivity to external factors, non-susceptibility to the early appearance of wrinkles. If you choose the right care, then negative manifestations such as acne and blackheads can be eliminated.
The condition of oily skin usually worsens noticeably during the period before menstruation.
Combined
Combination skin is the most common type. It is characterized by an uneven distribution of fat in different areas of the face - the forehead and nose are usually oily (the so-called T-zone), and the temples and cheeks are dry. It turns out that a girl or woman has to use different cosmetics - some are aimed at fighting acne, blackheads, removing blackheads, while others prevent peeling and premature aging.
With age, mixed skin usually becomes normal. The first signs of withering appear closer to thirty years of age; after another couple of decades, it becomes dry.
The appearance of combination skin largely depends on the quality of skin care.
Normal
Normal skin looks fresh, clean and beautiful, elastic, normally stretched, peeling and acne are not typical for it, the color is pink. It is quite rare. Normal skin contains enough fluid and oil to keep it hydrated and youthful without becoming oily. Enlarged pores and blackheads are not typical for such epidermis.
Please note that in the winter season, normal skin needs more active care than in the summer - this includes the use of gentle cleansers, concentrated creams and masks.
The easiest way to determine your skin type yourself is to use a napkin - you blot your face with it a couple of hours after washing and evaluate the nature of the spots.
Face cream
Day cream is necessary to maintain the skin in normal condition: fill it with nutrients, moisturize and protect it from the adverse effects of the external environment and ultraviolet radiation. If you neglect it, signs of aging will appear earlier, and in winter the skin will peel off. Every six months it is recommended to change the cream to another, since over time the dermis gets used to the active ingredients of the product, and the effect is significantly reduced. The cream should be applied at least 30 minutes before applying cosmetics to the face so that it has time to be absorbed. Products designed for skin care at night enhance cell regeneration, stimulate the elimination of toxins, prevent the appearance or minimize existing wrinkles. It is not advisable to use night cream for young skin (up to 26 years). Since the night cream is quite thick, it is recommended to apply it after washing your face in the evening, 2 hours before bedtime. If you do this later, the product will not have time to be absorbed, it will stain the pillow, and the pores will become clogged.
Facial care at 30–40 years old
By this age, you have already experienced a lot of stress and hormonal explosions (pregnancy, childbirth, taking birth control, etc.), and this is reflected in the skin. Even if the changes are not too noticeable, they are there. And for obvious reasons they will increase. Therefore, do not lose sight of the following important points.
Pay attention to pigmentation
Uneven color is a clear sign of age that can add at least several years. As you age, pigmentation becomes more pronounced, so it is important to maintain an even skin tone. This can be achieved by using whitening creams, masks, or using soft (without large abrasive particles) homemade scrubs.
But the ideal option is to consult a cosmetologist. Not only will he offer you whitening products tailored specifically to your skin, but he may also recommend a series of professional peels.
Yes! Using cosmetics with SPF is especially important. Ultraviolet radiation provokes the production of melanin and thereby aggravates the pigmentation problem.
Try not to use products with ethyl alcohol
Alcohol dissolves and washes away sebum. When there is a lot of fat, as is often the case in youth, rubbing alcohol can be useful. They help eliminate excess sebum with bacteria accumulated in it and thereby prevent the occurrence of acne.
However, as you age, sebum production decreases. Meanwhile, it is necessary because it moisturizes the skin and protects it from the external environment: high and low temperatures, wind, and so on. Do alcohol-based products damage IS ETHANOL IN SKIN CARE PRODUCTS SAFE? this already thin barrier that requires time to restore. And thereby depriving the skin of necessary moisture and protection.
After 30, it is advisable to choose tonics not with alcohol, but, for example, with green tea.
Start using anti-aging products
For example, creams and serums with retinol (vitamin A). It has been proven by Retinoids in the treatment of skin aging: an overview of clinical efficacy and safety that retinol improves cellular metabolism, stimulates collagen synthesis and even helps reduce existing wrinkles.
However, this remedy also has side effects. Thus, vitamin A can cause skin irritation and increases photosensitivity. Therefore, you can use such creams only at night.
Considering the side effects, it makes sense to consult a cosmetologist. A specialist will help you choose products with a retinol concentration that suits your skin. And also, perhaps, he will recommend other anti-aging remedies and techniques, including salon lifting procedures: massage, microcurrent and mesotherapy, and so on.
Creams and masks with collagen and hyaluronic acid will fit well into home care. By the way, you can also perform facial massage yourself.
Serum
comprehensive facial skin care at home - serum
With the help of serum, they fight flaking, dry skin, age spots and deep wrinkles. The complex of active ingredients in a serum is most often aimed at eliminating only one problem, so the product is selected not according to skin type or age, but according to its intended purpose. The serum should be used after washing and cleansing your face with toner. To enhance the effect, it is recommended to pre-steam the skin. They do this in the evenings.
Facial care after 50 years
The legendary Coco Chanel once said: “Your face at 20 is given to you by nature; what it will be like at 50 depends on you.” We hope that you did not leave your skin alone with stress, and it continues to please you with health and a well-groomed appearance. You are probably already a master in facial care, so we will note only three key points.
Use retinol
If you haven't used vitamin A products before, don't put it off: they really help your skin stay young longer. If retinol is already included in your favorite creams and serums, consider increasing its concentration.
Add hyaluronic acid serum to your routine
This substance is present in the skin and is involved, among other things, in preserving moisture in the tissues. With age, there is less and less natural hyaluronic acid, and the skin becomes drier, slowly turning into parchment.
But it's not just about moisture loss. Hyaluronic acid is actively involved in cell regeneration processes. If it is deficient, the skin simply loses the ability to regenerate effectively. And this speeds up aging.
Therefore, after 50, it is extremely important to additionally nourish the skin with hyaluronic acid using specialized anti-aging serums or even injections.
Make masks with a lifting effect every three to four days
In terms of rejuvenation, alginate masks have proven themselves well. However, cosmetic brands offer many other options for masks with a lifting effect based on “branded” active ingredients. And you will probably be able to choose something of your own - exactly the product that will restore elasticity specifically to your skin.
And let us remind you once again: we, unlike our mothers and grandmothers, are lucky to live in a time when beauty and youth are in many ways truly in our (and an experienced cosmetologist’s) hands. You need to take advantage of this magical fact!
Face masks
Face masks
Masks can be cleansing, moisturizing, rejuvenating, eliminating wrinkles, whitening, and in the summer you can even make them refreshing. They are an auxiliary tool in the fight against the problem, so each woman determines the appropriateness of their use for herself. The mask should be applied to thoroughly cleansed and steamed skin. It is recommended to do a course of procedures to achieve the desired effect. Any mask is applied in the evening, since after using it it is undesirable to go outside for some time.
Massage
Facial massage at home
Facial massage is recommended for women over 27 years old. For younger skin - up to 25 years - such procedures are not recommended. With the help of massage, you can increase blood microcirculation, improve skin turgor, saturate cells with oxygen, and form a muscle frame. Before the procedure, the skin is cleansed and steamed, and then an auxiliary product (oils, special gels or massage creams, or sour cream, cream and other natural products) is applied to the face. Since the skin is steamed before the massage, it is not recommended to go outside for some time after it, so it is more convenient to do the massage in the evenings. The procedures are carried out in a course: twice a year, 10 sessions, 2 times a week.
Why is it so important to cleanse your skin properly?
It is difficult to imagine how much dust and dirt accumulates on the skin every day. As a result of constant pollution, the sebaceous glands begin to work more actively, secreting fat that accumulates in the pores. The skin becomes covered with unaesthetic pimples and blackheads and begins to become inflamed. Daily use of foundation, powder and other decorative cosmetics only aggravates the situation.
To avoid constant rashes, be sure to remove all accumulated dirt daily.
Proper step-by-step cleansing of facial skin is also the key to maintaining youthful and beautiful skin. Under no circumstances should you skip morning and evening cleansing, because after these procedures the skin is literally transformed - from dull and tired, it turns into smooth, fresh and toned.
Facial exercises
comprehensive facial skin care at home -
face building Facial gymnastics as one of the stages of comprehensive facial skin care at home helps to cope with deep wrinkles, even out complexion, strengthen the lower eyelids, smooth out nasolabial folds and give clarity to the facial contour. Exercise will benefit women after age 30, when the first signs of aging begin to appear. You should exercise no more than 5 times a week; you should definitely give your muscles a rest for at least 2 days. The duration of the procedure is about 20 minutes. Exercises can be done at any convenient time, but in the morning they will give the maximum effect: they will eliminate swelling, warm up the muscles, and give vigor.
Sequence of daily procedures
comprehensive facial skin care at home
Morning care begins with washing the face, then wipe the skin with toner. After this, apply day cream to the face and neck. In the evening, the face is first cleansed with makeup remover, then toned, and then a night cream is applied. In the 2 hours remaining before bedtime, you can do exercises or facial massage. Before going to bed, it is recommended to blot your face with a napkin to remove any remaining cream if it is not completely absorbed. An integrated approach to facial skin care at home will help preserve and prolong youth, return the skin to a healthy and even color, and eliminate even the smallest signs of aging.
